You think Im 'trolling' because Im pointing out to you that your wrong?

No if someone stole £6 from the till then they will have lost £6 in cash. Your vouchers are not cash - you cannot use or spend them anywhere else - do you understand this at all?

LOL, it's hard to see how someone can be so wrong even when it's been explained to them in more than one way why they're wrong.

    Let me try.

You agree that if someone steals six quid from the till that Tesco loses.

So, presumably, you agree that if the cashier says that you can take six quid from the till they still lose, right?

And the same applies if the head of marketing says you can take six quid from the till, OK?

And if the head of marketing writes you a note, telling you can take six quid from the till, they still lose. Still with me?

So, what is the difference if they print a note on thermal saying that you don't have to pay six quid of your bill? :D

    Got it now?

In the long run Tesco presumably gain from these till splits in various ways but in the case of people who were going to shop there anyway and who just buy ahead, the £6 voucher loses them £6.

Again - the £6 voucher is NOT cash. How can you fail to understand this amazes me.

Read the analogy again - its a very basic form of what im on about - they do not lose money because they are still making 100% profit from what they have left after they have given some away.

If you really think these vouchers are cash then pop down to ASDA/Sainsbuirys and film yourself trying to use them there, come back and post the video of you getting a knockback because IT IS NOT CASH.

    You are trolling, aren't you?

Nobody can really be this stupid.

The vouchers are not cash but they can be used in place of cash in Tesco. That means that at the end of the day, instead of having £6 of my money in their till, they have a now worthless piece of paper.

How can you not understand that that has cost them £6 when they are demonstrably £6 worse off they would have been had I not used the voucher?

They may believe that they get benefits from giving me that £6 but, make no mistake, those benefits cost them £6.

Read the analogy again - its a very basic form of what im on about - they do not lose money because they are still making 100% profit from what they have left after they have given some away.

    This is gibberish.

I do believe that your the one who is being stupid for not understanding that they are not losing £6.

It doesnt cost them £6 at all. Its like im repeating myself here - but they have already bought the products - worked out their profit margins that they want from this, priced the goods up as such and then as an extra incentive given some people money off their shop. It doesnt eat into any profits whatsoever so therefore it does not cost them £6 off their balance sheet as they have already forecasted this in their accounting therefore they have not lost anything. You the consumer has saved. Thats it.

Next you will be telling me that the discount coupons you get in magazines for various products loses those companies money too rather then actually gets them sales because people use the discount coupons.

You may not be trolling but you seem to be extremely confused. My guess is that you are repeating some half forgotten lesson from a long time ago.

By what weird and wonderful algebra do you manage to come up with a situation where one party to a transaction has saved a sum and yet it hasn't cost the other party anything?

You are correct in that Tesco believe that issuing these vouchers is in their long term best interest but that does not mean that it doesn't cost them anything. They will have a budget for all promotions and the cost of these vouchers, together with any other promotions they might come up with will be taken out of that budget. If you believe that someone at Tesco Towers says something like, "Oh, we'll dish out vouchers to people - it won't cost us anything because we'll make it up selling other things to other people", you are mind numbingly naive.

So you're complaining about being given money off vouchers? Seriously? If you're that bothered about them then just use the vouchers as loo roll.

Which part of "This is not, of course, a complaint, but I wonder if anyone has any idea what they are aiming for." (from the OP), did you have difficulty understanding. rolleyes.gif

I still think you're trolling because I can't believe anyone could be this stupid repeatedly when about five people have told that you are wrong and explained why you're wrong. And not one single person has agreed with your bizarre stance.

    Look at it this way:

    Without Voucher:

I buy £50 of goods and give Tesco £50. Tesco have £50.

    With voucher:

I buy £50 of goods and give Tesco £44 and a piece of their own paper. Tesco have £44 and a piece of their own paper.

Thus Tesco have £6 less than they would otherwise have had.

Please explain how that voucher replaces the £6 that would otherwise go towards Tesco's profits. Where, as a specific result of issuing the voucher do they get £6 to recompense them for the £6 I still have in my pocket.

I can understand why someone wouldn't find this topic interesting but what sort of a moron extends threads in which they have no interest by making pointless replies to them?

Some people really do have way too much time on their hands. :D
