There's quite a difference between saying unlimited when there is a limit, and saying unlimited and claiming there is no limit.Just to clarify
Mobile broadband is Voda's term for a dongle type internet access.
Mobile internet is how they describe phone based internet use.
You may be on to something if they dont clearly state what term applies to what product, but seems clear to me to be honest, but then I use both so know the terminology
Back to the OP's point, the ASA have repeatedly ruled that the term "unlimited" can be used in sales pitches even though there is a limit as long as in practice most people do not hit that limit. (I know, I'm jsut qouting the ASA!) Yes it's a daft way to describe it, but it's been approved as a sales term so there is very little change you'll get anywhere with the claim.
Good luck trying though...
I asked them to clarify and they said no limit. I agree (broadly) with them being able to say unlimited when it has a high cap, but not actually lying about it.
My main concern is that I was told 18 months and it was really 24 months.0 -

I agree entirely, unlimited should be unlimited. However the ASA don't and have repeated rejected complaints over it.
The logic is that as long as the average user does not hit a limit, regadless of what that limit is, then it can be sold as unlimited and without limits.
I know it makes no sense but thats the way it's been ruled.0 -

Well, it's not that.
They said unlimited.
I said but there is a limit of 1GB or whatever?
They said no, there is no limit at all.
But there was a 500MB limit, which they knew and lied about.
Additionally they said 18 month contract, and I now have a 24 month contract.0 -

First point - Networks have nearly always got out of the unlimited bit by adding the rider of "subject to fair use" and then not saying "and it's up to us to say what is fair". I am with you 100% on the misuse of the word "unlimited", but in this field, the powers that be have let the networks get away with it.
Second point. 18 month contract. It all comes down to "can you prove it". If it's your word against theirs, you can, under Data Protection, demand a subject access to all of the information they have on file for you and that includes recordings, notes of upgrades etc. Well worth £10 if you feel strongly about it. But don't unilaterally stop paying after 18 months as it will hurt you more than them, even if you are right.0 -

We have understood you, but you have not understood us.
In the normal world I agree with you. Unlimited meands no limits. thats is no riders, fair use policies or anything.
However
In the marketing world your wrong. Unlimited means without limit that are apparant to you, so if you have 500MB of data and only ever use 100mb then you are in effect unlimited.
I know it sucks, but thats marketing speak for you. If you don't like it go to http://www.asa.org.uk/ but you'll get the same reply, sorry...0
