COMET-Cannot actually install a washing machine.

If its going into one of those blank socket things then it isn't the same as connecting to a power point so they wouldn't have to do it on that technicality. It should still be something thats specificly asked when you pay for the installation though.
Presumably this socket/spur was under a worktop? If so its probably better they didn't connect the pipes as they would be in the way when the wiring was done by yourself/landlord/whoever.
Bit crappy, can see why you'd be annoyed but not really down to the fellas delivering it in this case.0 -
Luckilly letting agent and landlord more competent and better at their jobs than than Comets.
Sorting now. Electrician came round and wired in washing machine. He even connected it to the water supply, even though that was not his job.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
You should also consider if the driver is actually qualified to hard-wire into your mains? Who carries the liability if the machine gave you a shock, for instance? You would say him, but maybe he would be having to connect to post-war brittle rubber wiring and an old-fashioned fuseboard. Unless the guy they pay as a driver is earning electtricians wages, I doubt whether it is even legal for them to make the hard-wire connections.0

Agree completely but If Comet are going to charge for and offer an installation service they should send someone along who is qualified and able to cope with hard wiring a washing machine into the mains.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -

Or at least be clear about what is and isn't included. At the moment it seems to turn on the interpretation of 'connect [to] power point' in the T's and C's someone posted earlier, it could be less ambiguous. Either way though, they didn't install it, so I would suggest any installation premium you paid ought to be returned to you!
One option for the future could be getting the electrician to replace the panel with a socket just for the WM, then that makes life easier! Maybe the landlord will agree, although it sounds too late for this time around!0 -
There is a world of difference between saying that they are not qualified to do the electrical work and saying that they haven't got the right screwdriver!
As others have said, you should get your delivery/installation money back as they clearly failed to install without a valid reason.0 -
Found out today off of girlfriends parents (who waited in for delivery of washing machine because we both had to go to work) that the "Installation people/Delivery driver" said about the previous washing machine, which had been in the flat for 6 years and not killed anyone "The wiring looks wrong".
Basically the wiring looked wrong because it did not have a plug on it. What a load of !!!!!.:rotfl:Iva started Dec 2018.0 -

It was delivered today. However the people that delivered to it were totally useless. Their excuse as to why they could not install it properly was "they did not have the right screwdriver". I would be p*ssing myself laughing it it was not so stupid.
Anyway will be getting onto letting agent tomorrow to find a competent person (one with a screwdriver) to connect washing maching to mains.
COMETS=USELESS.
Hi michaelvintner,
As a Company we ensure all our drivers are equipped with the necessary tools to complete any installation that has been booked by our customers to ensure we do not fail in instances as you have explained. It is therefore, unacceptable that the drivers used this as an excuse as to why they were unable to complete it.
So that I can investigate this further would you please send me an email l via the link below, quoting reference number 270175 and I will also ensure any fee paid for the failed installation is reimbursed

Comet just refused to install my washing machine because the plug point was not at least 16cm away from the waste pipe. They said there is a regulation regarding this and that is why they were not able to do it.
Can anyone confirm or deny the existence of that? Done some googling to no avail. No mention of it in the manual.
Apologies for being so rubbish at all things practical.0
