My dog disgraced himself...!

Took my dogs to a nearby field where I walk them off lead. As I got there yesterday evening the perimeters of the field, where the grass is long, were being searched by about a dozen police officers wearing latex gloves.

The field wasn't cordoned off so I just let the dogs off as usual.

Then one police officer got out of a van with a springer spaniel on a long lead, pointing into the long grass encouraging the dog to search there. My dog sniffed the air and was over to the springer spaniel like a shot. Had a close up sniff of it's rear end, totally ignored me calling him and decided to get amorous with it:o!

The dog handler cop was not amused but the springer was quite enjoying herself...! The cop told me to move my dog and I didn't need telling twice.

But wouldn't you think they'd cordon the field off if they needed to search it?

    LOl Love it!

It could have been a training session, I quiet often pass a field where the police have their sniffer dogs out.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

What kind of idiot lets their dog off the lead when there are police officers in plain view carrying out a fingertip search?

Well the cops stopped to stroke the dogs when I first went onto the field! And if it was important that the field needed to be closed to the public, why didn't they close it? There were several dogs off lead on the field!

Oh that reminds me of my darling dog who died a few years ago. We took him out for the day and he was very well behaved indeed apart from one thing: he mounted a guide dog while I was talking to her owner!!! Fortunately the owner who is my mother's neighbour could not see what was going on!

it was probably training rather than searching tbh.. you wouldn't have been allowed anywhere had a proper search been going on.

That's what I thought. The field's large but surrounded by railings on all 4 sides with an entrance and exit gate each about 10ft wide, so it would have been easy for the police to cordon it off had they wanted to. If it had been anything important I just wouldn't have been allowed on, and certainly if the police had indicated that I should stay off the field I'd have done as they said.

Actually as others have said it probably was a training exercise, as they were only looking in the longest grass on the perimeters, and the rest of the grass is quite long too as it hasn't been cut for a while. And they were quite half hearted about it, given that the longest grass hides the most dog poo...!

Do you know something you are the type of dog owner who really annoys me. You think its ok to let your dog run free with absolutely no consideration for anyone else using the field and no recall so you cannot prevent the dog from causing a nuisance of itself. Take the dog to training classes and teach it recall and learn to be a responsible owner
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Wow, some people are really overreacting. OP, bless you and your dog!! I bet that was an awkward situation to be in!
