  • Most of my cards have an outstanding balance with some sort of deal on them and I find that most providers tend to offer a deal not long after I have either paid of the entire balance or paid off a big chunk of it.

I had two different 0% outstanding balances with Natwest recently and paid one off as it was coming to the end of the 0% and within two weeks that gave me another 0% offer for a year.:T

Barclaycard seem to offer me deals whenever I fall below a certain outstanding balance and also have increased my limit on a couple of occasions.:j

Virgin offer deals within days of clearing the balance and even when I don't have any capacity to take them up on it.:rotfl:

M&S have never offered me a deal since the original 3.9% many years ago and that card balance has been clear for a couple of months.

Tesco used to offer me deals all the time, but have stopped. All I get from them now is the option to do money transfers at standard rate:mad:
  • An update on the first direct refusal.

I applied for the gold card and was turned down, despite having been a customer for over 10 years. I rattled off a complaining email and lo and behold I received a phone call today appologising and offering me a gold card with 0% for the first 6 months.

Well done First Direct, you may have fouled up but you did put it right!
  • After my post on the 10th saying that Tesco don't give me any offers anymore, I received one in the post today:T

It's only 0% for 8 months with a 2.99 fee, but an offer none the less.

No doubt if I pay off my Santander card off with it, they will give me an offer as well!

I've even had an email today from NatWest reminding me that I can still take them up on an offer (even though I did a transfer recently and don't have any available credit left)

Any chance of getting offers from HSBC? Don't want to close that account as I've had it for 7 years, but there's no reason to use it otherwise as I get cashback / rewards on other cards

Apart from the initial offers on applying for an account, I never had any other offers from them.

My advice would be to get rid :)

You should cancel the card as if you re-apply after the cool-off period you will be treated as a new customer and they normally would give you the same credit limit as it is on their system that you are creditworthy for that limit.

My colleague has done that twice with their affiliate card, she applied after 12-14 months both times and got the same limit as the first time around so was able to use their initial promo 3 times.!!! over 5 1/2 years.

I was due to be rate jacked by Virgin credit card jan 2013 and my account shows online that I can reject it but my balance is now ZERO as it was paid off. I'm hoping that feb they will see I have nothing in my account and will offer me a deal. Anyone else had this with Virgin and had some good deals.

    Thanks
    Andy

  • I have found that Virgin offer me deals when the balance is clear or if I pay off a big chunk of it.

On 2 recent occasions when i have come to the end of a 0% deal, i have paid off the balance and had a new offer within a week :j

I've read a few of the previous pages but not seen anything specific to my case but does anyone have experience of either HSBC (Mastercard) or Mint offering 0% BT to existing customers after clearing any balance?

Beware the Tesco balance transfer offer. Even if you pay off your new purchases in full on monthly statement they will still charge you interest on the daily balance of the purchases. In other words you no longer get 56 days free. Can't see it explained anywhere, but when we complained this was what we were told was making up the interest charge on our statement.

Same for me with Halifax. I suspect a lot of banks do it. The explanation was that I hadn't paid off the balance in full so interest was still due. It's like when you pay off your balance but still get hit with an interest charge because you'd carried forward a balance the previous month.
