What does everyone think of "Create" for making a website?

I would be interested in your views as I have thought of using them.

You don't get alot of space for the money. But it depends on what the site is for.

Domain name would be the first step, no point in getting a site built without it. When you pick a domain name try and keep it as short and memorable as possible but keeping it clear. Don't be tempted by using some of the more obscure domains like .co etc just because your chosen domain is taken. Try and be original, it is hard as a lot of the good domains are taken now. If your serious though once you have your chosen domain try and get the other versions of it if you can to protect yourself but in the UK aslong as you can get the .co.uk you should be good to go.

Find a host that offers the services and reliability you want at the price you are happy with. Shop around as not all hosts are equal.

Build you site, some use templates given by the host others use software like dreamweaver for example. Some of the hardcore guys will build it in notepad. Wordpress is another good alternative and I would say falls in between hosting templates and dreamweaver but is a lot easier than dreamweaver and has a lot more variables than hosted templates for example.....and its free.

Work on the SEO of the site to help with rankings.

    Job done.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Hi becky, I've sent you a pm with a recommendation for a company I used that allowed me to pay monthly for a website instead of a big upfront cost. Might not be any use if you don't want to pay but hope it helps. In any case, I'd suggest they're a good company to talk to even if you just need advice :)

I recommend going through a proper site tbh, go for something basic to get you started. We went through WAHM (work at home mum) Cart and Owlshost, they're fab we went from a basic cart to a designer after a year. They have a great support forum aswell with quite a few mums who have been running succesful business for a little while now.

I guess they will if they include website builders in there packages but again, still will only be templates that are used millions of times elsewhere on the Internet

Even with a web site builder, a web host will not help you design a website.

Other things I looked at were Mr Site, but people were complaining about bugs and poor customer service, and also software like Zencart, Opencart and Magento which are too technical for what I need right now.

However a bespoke website is not necessarily that expensive. I was quoted £250 + £90 hosting by someone who was recommended to me and does a good job, so I'm considering this option as well, once I'm able to compare the services I've just signed up to with the kind of sites he's been designing, I'll be able to make my mind up, and at least I will have a better idea of what I want from him.

Mr Site is really for basic web design, set template and that's it. Alot of limitations.

£250 + £90 hosting is alot of money. What does that actually include?

  • It is essential to have a website to promote the small scale business. It requires to have a good website to attract the visitors.Web development could be done on your own with the help of online tutorials available online or hire someone.
