Template sites are okay for personal sites but as a business you will come across as amateurish.
Very true, unfortunately some people just want everything for no outlay which is what this particular poster is looking like.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Do you give your products out for free?
Do you expect others to give you services for nothing?
Anyhoo.. here's a shopping website solution that will set you back £19.99 a month

I am a stay at home mum to a 3 year old and a 6 year old. I have no savings at all and wanted to start a business from home that i could manage with 2 small children. The type of business im looking to do is to work around them, and have my youngest with me when she is not in nursey. I dont have alot of money which is why i posted. Im basically started from nothing, and trying to make it work. I understand that i would have to pay to get a website, but just wondered if there was a free very basic one i could do for the time being to advertise what i am doing. When i am able to pay for one then i will be doing that. Thanks everyone for the help and the comments x0

If you have no money then you are going to struggle. How are you going to buy stock? What is the business you are looking to start?
There are plenty of free websites around that offer hosting, if you want something that looks better than something through these 000freewebhosts sort of sites then look at www.wordpress.com. It will give you a sub domain website address so www.yourname.wordpress.com but it will get you going, plenty of templates as well to choose from. Alternatively, if you are selling something then go on ebay and pay the associated fees.
Don't forget, when you decide to work for yourself you HAVE to let HMRC know by registering as self employed. You will also need to advise the benefits department as well if you're receiving anything as your work may affect what you receive.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
ok.. if you want a really simple, cheap site, why not try https://sites.google.com
It took me under 5 minutes to register this name and make the first page:
https://sites.google.com/site/ringo24601site/
There's no costs associated with this at all - all you need is a google user account
Would that do?0 -

Probably would do....althpugh anything that is "powered by Google Sites" just screams out dodgy.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -

Yup.. she'd be better off forgetting the website altogether and putting together a Facebook page for her business. Don't know why, but its more credible than a google site
OP- here's the link
https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
It's probably not a bad start to use Facebook as a hub for your business at the moment0 -
Using a free site is just cheap and tacky. If the customer thinks your can't even bothered to spend the money having a reasonable site then what are your products going to be like??
Image is everything in business and if you portray a cheap and tacky image then your aiming at cheapy tacky customers who wants everything for under a pound.
Free web hosts are a complete waste of time, you'll spend more time with your website offline than online. Look around for proper webhosting you can purchase reliable hosting for as little as a few quid a month. If you don't have the money for the marketing, which a website falls into marketing, then should you be really starting a business??
If you have no capital how are you intending to purchase your products or equipment needed for a service, market those products/service, unexpected costs, stationary, tax, fuel, delivery costs, etc etc. The list of costs is endless. If you have to start with a very low budget then forget the website and use other free means to advertise your business like facebook, twitter etc and get a following. A poor website will do your business more harm than good, not all publicity is good publicity!!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
That's why I think i'd recommend a facebook page. Doesn't matter if you are a big or small firm - the cost of your facebook page is still £0. So, it'll make you look bigger than a one woman band.
Once you start earning enough to move forward, you can get yourself an online shop.0
