Tried these the other day and was amazed the recipe worked so many thanks for sharing it with us.My only problem was they didnt rise much and looked a little like farleys rusks but i think that was due to the temperature of the oven and me opening the door a few times because i was too lazy to turn pc on to find out what temp 180 degrees is for a gas oven.

Hi hope this is in the right place.

My nan lived in chesterfield, i say this because differant areas have differant ideas what a scone should taste like.
She passed away in 1998, she used to always bake scones every saturday, they of course were the best scones anybody has ever made.
What i need is her recipe, these scones were like a heavy doe which used to go hard and crispy on the outside but a crumbly mixture on the inside. Not like the ones you buy in the super market which is more like a bread doe. (sorry mouth watering).
Hope someone can help with the recipe, i think im pregnant as i have a constant urge to bake some of these. (but being a bloke not sure). lol

    Many thanks:T:beer:

    Hi :)

Hmm... the bero book recipe might well have been her favourite:- Rich Scones

Failing that it might be a case of trial and error so here are a couple of threads with some alternative recipes...

Need a safe plain Scone recipe

    Fool-proof Scone Recipe advice please...

Just got back from hols with nearly 2 ltrs sour milk!! I intend to make scones and was wondering if to save time I could make them up and freeze the dough uncooked? I have frozen cooked scones before but they don't have that fresh taste when thawed. I am also aiming to cook some off to fill the oven when cooking something else. Can anyone help?
