Just got back from hols with nearly 2 ltrs sour milk!! I intend to make scones and was wondering if to save time I could make them up and freeze the dough uncooked? I have frozen cooked scones before but they don't have that fresh taste when thawed. I am also aiming to cook some off to fill the oven when cooking something else. Can anyone help?
I experimented with plain sweet scones and froze them for a week. When I took them out of the freezer I left them to thaw and then cooked them off with the evening meal.
It worked, they rosse well and tasted great.
Yes I have tried warming cooked scones when thawed but the seem to dry out.0 -
i have been meaning to try this recipe out for some time , having been disappointed with previous efforts and i have tried dozens of recipes, they were either too claggy , not risen etc etc
so i bought some "full fat " lemonade ...not the diet one
had some emlea double cream lurking in fridge, i could not believe how easy they were and the best scones i have ever made
it is now in my recipe scrap book in permanent marker si i dont loose it will not have to search for aother recipe again
enclose a pic ...sorry its huge have been playing with photo bucket last 20 mins trying to get pics smaller ...cant remember how to do it have tried resizinig but keeps coming out big
just to recap i used
2 cups self raising flour
150ml double cream
150ml lemonade
this made 9 FAT scones (well there was 9)
cooked at 200 degreees in fan oven0 -
just a little tip, dont try using lower fat cream. I tried the 18% cream ( was in the reduced section at only 9pence) and my lemonade scones were not so good :-(0

i'm not sure but i would doubt it i reckon as there is no other ingredients and no added fat in the scones they would need cream to substitute it , but maybe creme fresh ?
havent many left but am gonna try adding sultanas to next batch i bake0 -
I made some of these last year when I found the recipe on the Australian Simple Savings website - they ARE great, but (you knew I was coming with a "But"!) they don't keep. Whenever I have made them, we have had to eat them the same day as they got quite hard and dry if we had any leftover. Good excuse to break out the jam and get them eaten...December GC: £3500

I just tried this, didn't work so well for me
they came out really bland! They keep well so we are trying to finish them by having them with jam and butter and the taste ok then, the texture is no too bad... Should I have used salt and sugar, and also my poor scones didn't rise too well either, anyone else have that problem??

I added a little extra sugar and some dried fruit but they rose fine. Did need eating that day though as were slightly hard the next.0
