Santander won't close credit card as it is 1p over!

And it's not bureaucracy or inefficiency at Natwest, it just the cost of doing business and the procedures that the OP has managed to trigger.0

How did the OP end up owing the bank 1p right at the start?
I did a balance transfer and for some miscalculation by me the Santander Credit Card ended up 1p over.If a direct debit was set up, even to pay only the minimum, the DD would normally be set to clear the full amount rather that leave a 1p balance.
That is true. But I just paid the 1p over-the-counter 10 days before the direct debit was due to be taken. Also in my past experiences with credit card companies (Barclays), I've experienced that if a payment is paid well before the direct debit is due, the direct debit is not triggered. Why did the OP go to the bank to clear the balance of 1p?
As the bank is on my walk to work, I just looked inside and there was no Q so I thought might as well pay this 1p and close the account. Sooner the better. This seems a bit strange when they had set up a DD. It doesn’t seem worthwhile in shoe leather never mind travelling cost.
Please refer to my answer above. Why didn’t the OP cancel the card straight after clearing the 1p balance?
After that day I got pretty busy at work and completely forgot about calling them up to cancel. If the OP was in the branch to clear the balance it seems a bit strange to wait until after the DD to try and cancel the card.
I tried this but they said it takes 3-4 days for the amount to reflect in my credit card account.Or could it be that the OP is a Troll?
I hope this answers all your questions. I am not a Troll and the only reason I posted this here was to let people know about my situation and get some help maybe. But as a few minority have assumed here that I'm here to make money out of these banks and waste their time. The both the banks were absolute disgrace in dealing with me. NatWest was even worse. If the bank manager had a personal opinion that my 1p was a negligible amount for direct debit indemnity, he should have kept that opinion to himself. You simply cannot treat customers this way - it does not matter if it is 1p or 100,000p!!!!!!!!
I hope you now understand0 -
