Now get a life!.
Your eyesight needs a serious check up....... or simply you should have gone to Specsavers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now just keep quiet and let me enjoy me 6 bottles of lovely wine which I received from NatWest today..............
Well the font - It is just a sweet victory sign which you probably can't comprehend nor digest!!!!!!!!!! But yeah I won...........0 -
No.
pvt and jonesMUFCforever or any other reasonable person would have made a writen request to Santander to close the Credit Card account.
Something along the lines of
It's the way I always close credit card accounts. It gives confirmation that it has been actioned and an audit trail if needed.
It also avoids problems such as the original poster encounterd.
Listen noh - I did make a reasonable request to Santander via phone, which is an acceptable method to contact a bank since they encourage this. Why would I want to spend more money in typing a letter, printing it out, going to the post office, paying for a 2nd Class recorded delivery where I can just call them up for free. Also I think now that writing a letter would have ended up the same route!!!!!
I hope people learn from my experience and choose their own methods. Now let me enjoy a nice glass of wine courtesy NatWest.:beer:0 -
I'm very sorry - I've really learned my lesson.
And did NatWest process your 1p DD indemnity request in the end?Optimists see a glass half full

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
to think that pvt argued about this with me til he was almost blue in the face!!!
when it comes to cases like this it's just bureaucracy gone completely mad and customers have the right to put their foot down and stand for a principle!!! well done mate!!0 -
Immediately, the DD Indemnity was processed for 1p. The guy who spoke to me said it didn't matter if the amount was 1p or 1 Million p's......
So now you owe Santander 1p if I understand the situation correctly? How are you going to pay that?
What grounds did you give for requesting the DD Indemnity claim, given that neither NatWest nor Sanatander had made a mistake, and you had not cancelled the DD?

If you read the OP you will see he paid off the balance so it was zero then by mistake a DD went through 10 days later for 1p putting the card into credit by 1p.
The OP want to cancel the card but the bank refused because they owed him a 1p.
He said forget about the 1p but they refused to cancel and the saga began.
I did enjoy this thread and it is always funny when people get on their soapbox without understanding the issues.
It also show how it is always a good idea to pursue a claim when you think you have been badly treated.

Op, from reading the thread it sounds like pvt is correct. If Santander refunded 1p and Natwest claimed 1p by dd indemnity then you now owe santander 1p on your credit card.
My thoughts on the original posts is that nw refunding you the 1p wouldn't have solved the issue because for lower amounts they just refund but don't claim it back. I also don't believe you were entitled to use the guarantee because the dd was neither cancelled or taken in error.0 -
My OH had an issue closing a B'Card due to a small amount being in credit (about 20p or something). He wrote to them asking to close it - no reply. Eventually he phoned and they said they had made the account inactive but couldn't 'close' it automatically due to the credit balance. The CS team basically did a manual override to adjust the balance to zero and thus close the account - no idea why Santander can't do that too. I know it's a total pain but I'd almost suggest making a small purchase on the card, paying it off as soon as the bill comes and then closing the card that way. How frustrating.
Similar problem with TSB. They refunded me 75 quid as a gesture of goodwill regarding a complaint I had. They then applied interest of around £1.70 which affectively lowered the 75 quid which I didnt see the problem. They then send the refund out for 75 quid leaving this balance. The women on the phone said she would just wipe it in order to close it. Sometimes with banks it depends who you deal with.0 -

And if you read the whole thread rather than just the OP then you will see he claims Santander sent him a cheque for the 1p that HE overpaid them.
And the DD for 1p was not a mistake, it was the correct payment for Santander to collect. What screwed the system up is the OP paying 1p when he shouldn't have.Optimists see a glass half full
