How to make new friends, with so little time?

Hi people. Where do you meet new friends? Ones that don't drink alcohol too much or too often because I really dislike "pub culture".
I was making loads of friends at work but now nobody there talks to me because of a misunderstanding. I wasn't too keen anyway because all they talk about is work.
I would like to join a gym but can't afford it and I joined a couple of clubs over the past couple of years but my work hours interfered with meetings too often. Hence, so little time; where do people find the time to socialise?

I would suggest borrowing a dog and taking it for a walk. You get to meet loads of people that way. But then you won't know if they like going to pubs untill you start talking to them. Do you know someone nearby with a dog who would like some help with walking it?

Are there any kennels or dog homes near you? I know these people are always crying out for volunteers to walk the dogs etc even if you can only spare your time in the evening or at weekends I'm sure they'd really appreciate it"Not here for a long time...just here for a good time" - Kat Von D0 -

Now I do various shifts and cannot commit to a regular volunteering position.0 -

Is there any other volunteering you could do locally which you could fit around your work?
When my son was little, I got involved with the NCT and over time have made some lovely friends.
What about local churches, charities etc?'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -

Get on FB and seek some friends that way. And perhaps meet up for a coffee sometime..
.
When I moved 300 miles from home, The only friends I have met are through work. I have 1 good friend, but she likes to go out most weekends, I will one weekend go out with her, Scares me but I will. Another friends I met through work, is a party animal, hangs with people I would not want too, So I make excuses up about even going to her house for a coffee, as I don't want to hang with that lot. Another friend I met, changed jobs, but we do sometimes text eachother, but she is a keep to herself type of person (like me I suppose) So we never see eachother now, only when I go visit my Aunty where friend works.
I do have another good friend, We met via internet many years ago, she lives not far (half hr), but never comes to me as she won't drive on the motor way, So she will get her husband to take her with the kids, and I feel uncomfortable cus one of her kids is a devil child. So I tend to go to her, Which yeah does my head in. So I not been there for ages.
I will be honest I have only ever had 1 best friend, back at home, we were like sisters, but since I moved we don't speak much.0
