    1. Yes - you cannot be self employed and get JSA. You might be able to get tax credits though. If it doesn't work out you cannot go back from SE to JSA
    2. In the short term - definitely less than JSA. After 6-months to a year, maybe the same. Most of us combine this with other work. Video MSers can make more, but the equipment is expensive and it's not generally recommended for beginners.
    3. Yes - although you may need to get your employer's permission.

Please accept what am about to say in the spirit it's intended which is one of trying to help. I think from your writing you are maybe not a native english speaker? I realise that what you wrote is only a forum post, but the standard of english would not be good enough for several of the MS companies, which will make it harder for you.
You can be self employed and claim JSA at the same time as long as you don't spend more than 15 hours 59 minutes doing the self employed work.

Mystery shopping yields virtually zero profit. Deduct 45p for every mile that you travel on mystery shopping jobs and you'll be left with a few quid profit. The first £5 (maybe £10 or £20 depending on circumstances) you earn as profit per week is ignored for JSA purposes. The rest will reduce your JSA pound for pound.

You can be self employed and have a permanent job.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Thanks guys for your advise. I thought beeing a mystery shopper will help me financially so I dont have to buy food (and other stuff) on my credit card.
I need to see if it is worth doing it. I thought I would make quite decent money on it. But maybe I will spend my time looking for other job instead of driving to different shops and making only a few quids on it.

    Hi guys,
hope you can help me. I have been made redundant (6 months ago) and I havent found a new job yet. The money from gouvernment are obvieously not enough and I was thinking of becoming a mystery shopper until I will find other job. I have a few questions I hope you can answer:
    1. I know I need to registry as a self employed - does it means I am going to loose benefits?
    2. I know you cannot tell me how much you earn - but can you tell me if I will get more than JSA?
    3. If I will get a permanent job can I be self employed at the same time?
I think thats all questions I have at this time. If someone could answer it I would really apprieciate it :)
    thanks, Anna

The issue with your written language skills in this post is use of tenses mainly. I think this is probably hindering your job search as well, so working on this would be a good thing anyway. The actual choice of words shows a good command of vocabulary and I've seen far worse posts from native speakers. :p

With my fiance we are trying to save some money for a wedding so I was very upset when I lost a job. Maybe when I will find a new one I will try to do MS just to save some extra money. Or I will ask my fiance to do that as he is english so his written english will be perfect. Each £ counts :)

    Thanks Yonk,
I know I have problem with tenses probably because I have never learn english. I came here only for a holliday 3 years ago and I met english guy and we are very happy so I decided to stay. At the begining we even couldnt speak with each other. I learnt english speaking with people and working in a shop. In my previous job I was working as an Electronics Enginner and my english wasnt a problem there. Fingers crossed I will find a new job soon :))

    Hello,
If anyone's interested I have just received an email reply from RA saying the July pharmacy payments are late this month but will be paid soon (a bit vague with the 'soon' I think!).:)

I leave in a small city and probably there will be no MS assignments here. How far do you usually travel? Is it worth if they pay ex £10 for the job? thanks
