Can anyone help a naive & brain dead first time Mom-to-be? I've decided I'm going to use the moses basket for the first few months that was given to me by a friend. It was a bit tired & well used, so I've bought new cover & hood set for it, but I need a new mattress too - it's a 'standard' size but I don't have it with me at the mo and when I look online for new mattresses they come in different sizes which I didn't realise! Anyone guess which size might be 'standard'. & what sort to get - foam, airflow etc etc etc

Also our Giblet is due in October - I've been told sleeping bags (which I was going to use) aren't suitable for newborns - so what sort of sheets/blankets will I need for that time of year? I guess a mattress protector & changes of fitted sheets - but what about over baby?

I really haven't started buying anywhere yet as we're 'between' houses but now I'm panicking in case Giblet makes an early apperance!

    Thanks :o

Measure the inside of the basket before buying anything.

I just get the ones fully covered in plastic, they are wipeable whereas foam ones do go mouldy, sicky dribbles soak in and you cannot wash them as you are using them.

I put a fleece blanket or hand towel on the mattress then a fitted sheet then a muslin square tightly tucked in to catch any spare dribbles.

As for blankets.. it depends how warm the room is TBH.. one or 2 should be enough if you are ok in a long sleeve tshirt. I always think they need more blankets than the books say they should have.. if they are resless when sleeping it is usually bcause they are cold.. play it by ear, each baby is different.

Squeak has a vest, sleepsuit and cardigan and in winter she had a sleeping bag.. she will not keep covers on.. she just has the sleepsuit and one fleece blanket now.. I put the blanket over her when I go to bed because she never is covered up.

If they are cold they wake up and are miserable rather than the happy things they are when they've had enough sleep.. it's a pretty good rule of thumb.

I had 6 blankets for the basket and it was plenty until Squeak came out of it at easter.

Morning....oops afternoon actually - maternity leave has made me lazy!:D

Thankfully it's a bit cooler here today - never thought i'd be hoping for cooler weather in June but needs must! :rotfl:

Talking of changing bags, I still need to buy one - I never got the voucher for the free boots one and I don't think I cba to ring them. Plain black will do so may have a little look in Argos later this afternoon.

Lirin when all my friends/family have been pregnant I have been stupidly excited and cooed over tiny clothes etc - not so much for my own baby which is odd but Im sure Ill be cooing with the best of them when she finally arrives!

Am off to meet iceicebaby for lunch in a little while - hoping for tiny baby cuddles!:D

    Welcome to the thread Keggsy!

Lirin I can relate to what you have said, I am not that into shoes (I do like the odd handbag but not excessively) nor have I ever been one to obsess over babies. However, I knew when I met OH that if I were going to have a baby it's be with him, I guess things change when you meet the right person. My mum always brought me up telling me from around the age of 7 that I would never have kids as I wasn't 'the type' (at 7 years old, I would love to know what chid is the 'type'). This continued through my teens and twenties and in my thirties she started to raise the subject a la 'I don't suppose I'll ever see a grandchild from you' sort of thing. Which if course made me want to prove her right... now however she is ultra excited. The main thing is for you to act and do what YOU want to - ignore everyone else because if you live to their rules, you'll feel miserable.
I have most of the basics now but am trying to be moneysaving and also wait til bubs is here for some of the stuff, so whatever you have bought so far I am sure is fine. There is always internet shopping once baby arrives, so don't worry!

Your time away sounds lovely by the way, idyllic and I wish we could get away but as hubby has no time off now, we're restricted to weekends.

Thanks everyone for info re: RLT, I may have a cup of it later then. Thing is it makes me feel that if I take it, things are definately *real* and I'm getting close...

Apricot have a lovely lunch and say hello!

Well I had hoped it would last but alas it has not! I had 1 stretch mark at 37 weeks, at 38 weeks I now have more it would seem. Small ones off from ym tummy button. Ah well, Im growing a little miracle so nevermind. :D I guess I dont have long to go now anyway lol.

Is anyone else having issues with their feet? I dont know if its the heat or what but all of my shoes are so tight! Cant even wear socks with them its that bad. Took a pair off last night at my mums and had a big fight to get them back on and they really hurt to walk in lol.

Talking of the heat.. its unbearable! Cant sleep on a night for it and I keep waking husband up tossing and turning lol.

No news yet on MrsS and others? hopefully soon! :)

aaww thankyou lirin, but i don't think i could ever sell the bits' i've made. i might in the furture make bits to sell, but i used to have my own crafty business and i was in-undated with orders that once i started havign my family i had to stop doing it as i just didn't have enough time, and at present i want to just make for fun, rather than to make money. but it something maybe for when i'm older.

Well i had my scan.very interesting.

i'm 32 +2 and baby is measuring 35+1 and is weighting a huge 5lb 8oz already  wow. i think i'm growign a 10 lb in there. on plus side my actually tummy is still on track and measuring 32.

midwfie did say tho if i get any scar pain or too much pain i must go up. section is booked for 39 weeks. but she said if the pain is too much it might get done earlier.

also baby is head down and very low and the sore side i have on my left side is right by where is spine is which explains why it is tender. they had to keep on taking the measurements as every reading was putting baby off the scale. at 24 weeks he was around the 75 centile, but now he gone way past the 95 th . but it nice to know i'm growing a sturdy baby as scanner told me,lol.

scan did hurt tho as his head was so low down trying to head a head measurement was very uncomfy.

but his heart is beating nice and strong, he's got lots of fluid and he seems very happy there. i'm so reasuured espesh after all the pains, and it also explains why his movements are less as he really is filling out all the space he can, lol.

I'm not sure about BH really. I thought they didn't come as early with your first or you just don't know what they are. Some people have them though. Don't think I do so far (30 weeks).
