Warning ! Supermarket Chaos Expected

  • Supermarkets MAKE you go in again shortly before Christmas because suddenly everything fresh has a suspiciously short sell by date so you can't buy in advance to avoid the supermarket - I notice it is the same every year - cream, meat, cheese, etc suddenly goes out of date on 20th December!

Thats because they over order too early !
  • Retail workers already do work January 1st, wouldn't want anyone to miss a day of the sales now would we :naughty:

Thankfully most food stores still shut on 1st Jan in England as well .

Not good - popped in for some food items this afternoon and people were unable to see the end of the line for each till (all open) !!
  • I found a good solution to busy supermarkets last night: find out which supermarkets that usually close relatively early are open late for Christmas shopping! Most people don't expect them to be open so don't go. In the space of 40 minutes (starting at 9.20pm) I went to both Lidl and Waitrose and got everything done. Shops devoid of customers so no queuing, no trouble parking, no trolley rage - lovely! And there was plenty of stock left.

We went to Tescos yesterday evening, and it was like a war - people scrapping over turkeys and getting red faced and stroppy with each other.........the poor assistants were getting abused because they had run out of a few things, and all in all it was sort of seige mentality.

This chaos was (for me) capped beautifully by a very irate pensioner who informed me that she thought Christmas was "disgusting nowadays, and had lost it's original point"..........which according to her was because "there is much too much about Jesus, Father Christmas and Cliff Richard", and nothing about Elvis"...........I couldn't think of a reply to that surreal assessment lol:rotfl:

Anyways, I'm girding my loins and mainbracing my splice, ready for M&S - but I'm confident, as after Butlins with Christmas hype, 4 grandkids and thousands of other people's over-excited kids, this should be simple.....

Went to Morrisons yesterday afternoon and it wasnt to bad, plenty of shoppers in but only one person in front of me in the checkout.

I was pleasently surprised it wasnt as busy, last year it was bedlam when tills were busy and some out of action, dont you just love it when the tills are busy and some aint working?

The Morrisons in Morley was packed at 8.30 this morning. I set off early to beat the rush but everyone else had the same idea. Mighty pleased that the big shop is over with now though. Tonight will be horrendous and will probably peak tomorrow evening.
