Dear me, we have now moved on from the suggestions that I pay my parents £45 to take their Grandchild to summer school. An amount that I have (politely) pointed out they would find excessive and flatly refuse to take, to going on about the tax man and insurance issues. They are taking their grandson/godson for 1 day each! Do most people ring up their tax and insurance people, to say just gave Fred a lift and he gave me a fiver for it?

And now the suggestion that I shouldn't be sending him. Anyway for the record, my son WANTS to go. There are 2 places for children from his school, he was 1st choice from almost 90 kids. Because they couldn't get hold of me initially, the HT asked my son about it first and he jumped at the chance, he loves Science. I am VERY proud of his acheivement. He will be happier being there, than he will in the childcare facility he'll have to go to for a couple of week in the hols! He will also get 3 weeks off with a parent at home, plus having me home mid afternoon plus 1 full day a week as I only work part-time. He is 11 and going to Secondary school in September. I am not taking about a 4 and a half year old.

The problem of getting there happened, because my son's HT incorrectly told me there was a mini-bus that would take the children from my area there, and some weeks later, told me he'd got it wrong. When I mentioned it to our family/friend, they offered to help!

I'm glad I'm a long term user on this site, some of you lot would have scared a newbie off, but please you should use your talents in the Discussion Time board. I guarantee you'll be loved in there. :p:p:p:p:p:p

Prosaver- At least you made me chuckle withn your link! Perhaps I should add my DD is going to a drama summer school the same week. Or perhaps I should word it r my star-struck 8yo is overjoyed to be going to drama school the same week and will be putting on a play on the last day. A friend's teenager will be dropping off some mornings, for which I am paying a babysitting fee, but maybe I need to add in cost of shoe leather, indemnity insurance, extra money for how much my dd will natter her ear off going on about it and so on :p

BTW - I just told me DH about some of the comments on this thread and he's just surprised that no-one has told me to get my family CRB checked!

And to the posters who did make sensible suggestions, thank you.

You posted on the motoring forum, there are a handful of posters on this forum that love to change the subject and wind people up.

In fact I think they just enjoy arguing amongst themselves.

In answer to your OP I think they are just returning favours so I would offer a nominal amount (you dont have to cover costs) and see how it goes.

Once you decide are they less likely to refuse if you give the money to Son to give to them as a thank you.

Another option might be to pay for them to have a day out at the same time, any nice pubs for lunch or some other sites on the way.

    ksimmons,

    I think you're spamming.

You've posted the exact same message twice with all those horrible bold capitals.

Why would you post in this thread? This thread was about offering the fair amount of money to friends and relatives transporting someones son to a summer school - it has nothing to do with money for liftshares. Would you send your son out with strangers?

I've visited the blabla website and there is nothing there on the main page that helps you to calculate the cost of motoring as you claim.

If you pay someone petrol money for liftshare that is fine by HMRC and your Insurers. If you start charging more than that then it becomes a grey area as to whether you need to declare it as income and requiring hire and reward insurance.
