How much petrol money to offer?

My son is at a summer school in August for gifted children. It's 25 miles from where we live, so a round trip of 50 miles, 100 miles for both drop off and pick up. Friends & relatives have offerred to help us out taking DS there and picking him up as we were struggling to do so due to time constraints and our jobs. I don't expect any of them to fund the petrol cost themselves though, but I also don't know how much to offer. I know it depends on what they drive, how they drive etc, but just a rough idea?
The cars taking him there and back, 1 is a Zafira, 1 is a fiesta and the other I've forgotten but a small car, some fiat perhaps. :o

Just give them however much it is that you save by not doing it, if they make a profit on that it is probably better than you making a profit on it

TBH, i think it would be about £15 as an average, but i'd be offering at least £20 to cover the inconvenience

just pay them what most companies pay their staff in expenses for a trip £0.45 per mile - so around £45 per trip - dont forget a car doesnt only use petrol in a trip its about the whole cost of running the car for those 100 miles - insurance tax, petrol depreciation, tyres, wear and tear etc - HMRC has deemed 45p per mile to be a reasonable amount

£15 will cover the fuel cost - £20 will cover the cost of depreciation, servicing, tyres etc.

Is there something you're not getting?

You questioned the use of 3 cars for 2 trips and now the £20 I said?!

The OP said that one of 3 cars could be used.

Then I said that £15 would cover fuel, but to offer £20 (an extra fiver) to cover all costs. Not an extra £20 on top of the £15.

I'd guess he means £15 of the £20 is fuel.

I reckon £20 is the bare minimum plus a decent meal out when it is all over even then it would really be for the love and not the money.
