Star Upgrades and Downgrades

Ok this ones been bugging me for a while now, I hope someone can help.

I was so proud to have had my I.D upgraded from 2 to 3 stars last year with this site, it was like winning an award. But somehow or for some reason, I was downgraded to 2 stars, Is there any particular reason for this, I am sure I havent done or said anythig wrong to warrant it, but I am devastated at the demotion. How is it possible to get my grades upgraded back to 3 stars, eventually and with a lot of time and good will, I am determined to earn my way up to 4 stars, although I know this is going to take some time and major feat. For now though, I would be happy to get my 3rd star back. Can anyone advise me how?

The stars change after a certain amount of posts. The number of posts this requires is a closely guarded secret known only to the team. They may have recently increased the number of posts that are needed to gain your next star. This could explain why you've lost a star.

In effect, to earn your stripes as it were, you must contribute your knowledge . Is there a difference between posting a new thread and replying to an existing thread? And does the amount of thanks you receive contribute to your status? (shucks I sometimes find myself with nothing new to add)

It's your overall postcount that makes a difference. The thanks button is completely seperate, and has no bearing on the stars.

Its not a secret at all, you should get another star about 501 (or 751, I forget now), then 4 at 1501, 5 stars at 5001 and then you loose them all at 10,000.

It doesnt matter where or how you post, it goes of post count alone, its just a simple rank setting, once the database records you hit a certain number, then it changes you to a diffrent rank. If you have had 3 stars, it must have been a little glitch, the site gets them from time to time.

A Glitch!!!! I'd never been so proud, it was like winnin the lottery :P droppin down a scale was tantamount to torture, thought I was being punished

Although, you may have had 200 posts deleted, in which case, you would need to be punished :rotfl:

Ah well, you will get there soon enough, and once you do, you will want to get back lower

That was probably written way back in the day when it was an acheivent to get to 1000, the figures have been posted many times, that I have seen at least.

Would it not be better if the star rankings were based on thanked posts rather than posts?
