Just think. You have the rest of his life ahead of you getting soaked to the skin taking him walkies.
It's called the joys of dog owning. It's what you sign up for the day you buy a pup:rotfl:0 -

Positive reinforcement, as mentioned on this thread and every other on dog training. A progressive society doesn't punish an animal or child for an accident during the learning process, or we'd all be rubbing our toddler's nappy in their face and whipping schoolchildren for a spelling error. :eek:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

If you are taking the dog out every hour or half hour and praising when the dog does what you want you should not have lots of accidents. Rubbing the dogs nose in it only teaches the dog not to do it when you are around because bad things happen.
The alternative message that the dog should be getting is 'this is what I want you to do...' rather than punishing when the dog doesn't know what it has done.
Puppies take a lot of patience and training to become well rounded, obedient and trained animals it doesn't just happen as a consequence of the dog getting older. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Its really simple.
Reward good behaviour, ignore bad behaviour.
Dogs aren't like children, they have no concept of right and wrong!0 -

I honestly thought you were joking before about rubbing it's nose in it's mess
Did you rub your children's nose in their mess when you were potty training them and they got it wring? No because you know that's cruel and disgusting and doesn't achieve anything. It's the same with pups. You don't let them mess in the house by ensuring they are taken out every hour and stood with till they do their business then you praise like crazy. Accidents you ignore ie you clean up but don't chastise or scold
Pups soon learn that going outside is the best way believe me
I also find it's best to keep pup in the kitchen or another room which is tilled or laminated until it's better at holding on. Saves so much stress and worry
Yes it really is a pain being out all weathers morning noon and night but it really is the quickest way to train them0 -

I know it's easy to leave the door open but believe me taking him out and staying with him will pay dividends in the long run. Soon as he starts to do his buisness use a word or phrase you are happy to use. I use wee wee. While he's wee ing I'd be saying "wee wees goodboy". When he's finished lots of praise and fuss. Soon he will learn that being told wee wee's will mean he has to go. In other words put the effort in now and he will learn to toilet on demand which is great for those freezing winter nights ahead0

Yeah, but leaving the door open doesn't teach the dog what you want him to learn. Like Suki says having commands for the dog helps it to associate with what you want.
My youngest boy was brought home at the end of December a couple of years ago and I was often found in the garden at 3am knee deep in snow saying 'go pee' or 'go poo' to get him to go. It is an investment now that will pay off for the next 15 years.
You may get to the point that the dog goes outside as he has learned that peeing inside gets him a smack or his nose rubbed in pee but your housetraining may collapse when the weather gets colder and the door is shut as the dog won't know to ask to get out.
Please put the effort in now, no matter how miserable and cold it is, you will be doing yourselves a huge favour in the long term.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
