Mira Shower on the blink!

Hi All!
I've just been reading through what others have said in this thread and I'm wondering if I have the same problem with the filter in my shower. A couple of months ago, a neighbour was building houses in his garden and my water supply was disconnected whilst he installed his new supply. Ever since, my shower has been temperamental. It's a Mira Advance. I phoned a chap who advertises in my local paper - he states in his ad that he does Mira showers. He said he doesn't do this Mira model and I'll have to phone Mira. Well ... this got me thinking. I've fixed a few things here before including washing machine and dishwasher ... this is only a shower ... maybe I can do it myself!
The symptoms I'm getting are right from the word go. When the shower is turned on, it blasts water out at a rapid rate of knots - much faster than usual - then makes a light gurgle and reduces the flow to very little, causing the low pressure light to come on, quickly followed by the stop light. Then it goes off. It's the same for low medium or high buttons. So to get my shower in the morning, I have to start it up several times - sometimes twice, at others up to 10 times - eventually it will settle to something usable. But sometimes in the middle of my shower, it gurgles twice from the unit, then the water goes cold for a few seconds before returning to normal temperature. Thankfully it gives me half a second to step back when I hear two gurgles! Needless to say, I've had the shower hose off, poured descaler down that, and have descaled the shower head too.
I think this may be caused by a dirty filter inside the shower. I've downloaded a pdf version of the manual from the Mira website and there are instructions there on how to clean the filter. However, when I spoke with Mira on the phone, they seem to feel that unless I'm an electrician, there is nothing "user serviceable" in the shower. Hmmm. The Mira callout fee is £69+parts. I'll pay it if I have to, but I don't believe in paying someone else to do something that I could quite likely do myself.
If anyone here has experience of cleaning the filter in a Mira shower, I'd appreciate a "heads up" on how difficult it is and any top tips to ensure I do it properly!
Many thanks,
Jill0 -

hello everyone, i have a mira sport shower in the house we have just moved into, it was working fine but suddenly it has started going cold and the low flow light illuminates, if i remove the shower head the shower works normally and as soon as i replace the shower head it goes cold with the light coming on again, there a, but that may just be me, i would love to know if this problem is repairable without spending lots of money on a plumber who is going to charge me £65.00 just to knock on my door
Its somthing causing the water presure to build up in the shower and then overheat so cuts off, as you mention you take the head off it works and you put it back on its stops then i would guess the shower hose is the problem, it will be kinked inside, when you take the head off you have the hose in a diffrent position so it works but when you put the head back on and hang it up again it kinks so stops working again, so a new hose should sort it for you.0 -

I know this was posted a couple of years back, but as a 'morale boost' to anyone with a problem electric shower, such as this;
Shut off the water - if the plumber who installed the shower did his job properly, you'll have a valve to do this without shutting down the whole house.
Turn off the power, both at the switch in/near the bathroom, and at the consumer unit/fuseboard
Remove hose and head
Take cover off shower with screwdriver
Disconnect the water inlet with a standard plumber's wrench
Disconnect mains cable with screwdriver
Sealant and tile grout permitting, remove the shower unit from the wall, and place on workbench to perform remedial work
Perfectly safe. Take care to route the mains cable the same way when replacing, and consider a fresh washer in the inlet.
Get advice on how to fix it (symptoms, etc) from the tech forums at www.showerdoctor.co.uk0
