Mira Shower on the blink!

Options
My other half fitted a new Mira Shower 6 months ago, all was fine until a few weeks ago when I switched it on and only a dribble of water came out, I turned it off left it a few seconds and tried again and it was fine. Now it's started to happen more frequently and I'm paranoid that one day it's going to conk out completely!

Does anyone know what the problem could be... maybe a lack of pressure?

Also (sorry for sounding really silly) but if I need someone to come out do I need to call a plumber or a sparky? (it's an electric shower)

I'm off out to work now so wont be able to reply for a few hours - any
help would be much appreciated.

As you haven't stated the model number or even the type of shower, I doubt any expert will be able to advise you. If it has a filter, check that it's not blocked.
  • As it's under a year old is it not under gaurantee!

I doubt if a blocked filter is under guarantee. My shower filter got blocked because the tank in the loft had lost its lid and was full of fibreglass and cr*p.

Yes most likely to be a blockage in the filter.

Phone Mira, as they come with a 2yr warrenty.

If it IS a blocked filter, make sure you clean out the source of the blockage or it will happen again.
  • Thanks so much for all your advice I will get bf to check filter. Hopefully i will soon be able to start pressing the on button without the fear of it not working!

  • BF just checked the filter and emptied it out into my hand - lots of little pieces of grit! I carefully rinsed it out so hopefully this will sort the problem. :j

Thanks again to everyone who posted a reply

  • Talking about tempting fate bf just shouted down the stairs...It's still not working :(
It's a Mira Sprint 8.5Kw any of you lovely people got any more suggestions?

It has also been making a squeeking noise when it first starts up and the water comes out. This may be something completly different as it doesnt happen at the same time it either:-

    A. Starts up and when the water comes out squeeks for a few seconds or..

    B. You press the button and it sounds fine but only a dribble of water comes out.

    Thanks in advance....

  • When you press the button to turn the shower on a solenoid opens to let the water flow….it sounds like this is playing up & it’s working intermittingly.

In an earlier post you say that the shower is only about 6 months old….can you not get it exchanged under guarantee?
  • Thanks Uncle Buck, think the shower will have to go back which is a pain as we live a fair way from B&Q!

What we have realised is that if the shower is on and trickling water if you turn a tap on then off or flush the toilet the shower then starts to work....Can anyone shed any light on why this would happen?
