Excel parking fine.

I've read a lot of threads on here about this company but this fine is my fault/huge mistake so I need help!!
I used my husbands car on May 20th to go to a hairdresser's appointment. I parked up in the car park and went to the machine and paid for 2 hours. My appointment was less than an hour and I left the car park straight away. This Saturday, the 11th June, my husband received a parking fine for £60. I racked my brain and suddenly realised that when I entered a number plate into the machine I entered my own number plate and not his because I don't use his car that often. We have appealed the fine and are awaiting a reply.
My question is should I ignore the fine like others on here or was I in the wrong for putting the wrong details in?
Sorry if I rambled on but I'm new on here :T

You should ignore the charge which is not a FINE. You have done nothing wrong and you don't owe them a penny. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

You haven't 'appealed' - you have 'fallen for the scam and given them your details'. There is NO APPEAL, it's a pretence to gain information to harass you or just hope that you just believe it's a real fine and pay it.
You have not been fined!
You do not need to wait for that reply, I can save you the wait - the letter will say 'we have considered what you said but in this instance your appeal has not been successful'.
You ned to read the sticky info threads near the top, 'PPC letters, what to expect' which is self explanatory but a MUST to read up on, and 'welcome, please read before posting' which includes a lot of info including Watchdog's solicitor on what to do:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
Show your husband, family and friends the letter-chains thread and the Watchdog clip, make sure none of them fall for this stupidly common 'fake PCN scam'. Of courfse you just ignore all the letters that match our top thread, they are just threats from debt collectors, pen-pushers and nothing more.
Only mugs and uninformed VICTIMS fall for these scams and pay.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I can save you time waiting for your reply it will say "Appeal unsuccessful" you paid for parking so what do you owe them? OK you made a mistake, do you think £60 is fair, it would have been cheaper to park on a double yellow line!
Ignore these companies, they purposely make it as difficult as possible not to commit an "offence" [in their eyes]
Simple wrong number or not you paid their loss is nowt you owe them nowt!0 -
You paid for parking but put the wrong number-plate into the machine, therefore the total damages suffered by the landowner is zero. Just ignore Excel, if they tried court they would be laughed out again0

Its not a fine, you get fed up of telling people and hearing it called a fine...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Here is a brief account of possible defence procedure; first, do not write to them, LET THEM tickle the DVLA by having to pay for the registered keeper's details and DO PUT THEM through the paperwork and stamps etc. If they choose not to do this, you have nothing more to worry about, if they do, here are possible solutions:
Write to them in such a way that you are informing them that their grievance involves the driver and not the registered keeper, admonish them to redirect their document accordingly - and let THEM do the investigative work to find out it was actually you, which they simply can't. Also inform them that if they believe YOU to have a debt (as you will not be divulging the name), they may arrange a civil court hearing - from this point you can discard ALL letters you may receive from third parties on the issue; you've made your point clear.
Alternatively, remind them that their demands contravene Contract Law (and they know this, but you're letting them know you also know) in that they seek an amount far greater than actual losses, and again "you got a problem??? Sue me then!!!! Go on....give me your best shot!!!!", but don't use these words, use your own!!!
In no case should you expect a reply cancelling the charge; it is not as if they don't know these things but the PPC policy is to keep squeezing until hopefully you give in and pay. Until they arrange a court hearing (which they will not), you can happily save yourself money on toilet paper as the PPC, its "debt collection agencies" et al. will be providing you with plenty!0 -

Absolutely, I agree with you 100%. The only thing is that people who consult these forums for the first time have had recent experiences which make them feel frightened and uneasy; in this case, to ignore seems a bit harrowing when nasty letters land on the doormat. When they are slightly active, it gives them encouragement and stops them worrying. YOU will ignore and so will I... but that's down to experience and having seen the end of the film!
"...so after months and months of scary letters, some purporting to be from the firm's 'legal department', and even from debt collectors, and then solicitors, not ordinary third parties but dead genuine because their literature was beautifully embellished with black and white Battenberg squares around the border...still the RK never replied, and in the end... the villains shrugged their shoulders and conceded that although their £60 demand had increased to £600, they ended up getting nothing, not even a reply...they buried their shameful heads as they rode away, kicking themselves that the months of expectation had cost THEM time and money - THE END"
Credits roll!
