    Good article worldtraveller. I really liked the click on timeline above that which goes something like:

    * Argue about the Euro
    * Announce austerity measures
    * Workers go on strike in protest
    * Fail to make Euro criteria
    * Announce austerity measures
    * Workers go on strike in protest
    * Hold a snap election and get a different government in
    * Spend some more money
    * Fail to make more Euro criteria
    * Announce more austerity measures
    * Workers go on strike in protest
    * Have your economy downgraded by Fitch
    * Announce austerity measures
    * Workers go on strike in protest
    * and so on....

    How half-witted of them, it can only make a dire situation worse.
    ...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

    In brain cells, true. But we aren't quite as close to the edge of the cliff as Greece is.

    How does the Greek government justify taking money from taxpayers in countries that cannot retire until 65 to pay for their own citizens to retire at 55?

    As stated earlier:
    their attitude appears to be:

    S&P said this morning a French plan to allow Greece to voluntarily change the terms on some of its debts when they come up for repayment would, "likely amount to a default under our criteria".

    French banks, which hold some of the biggest exposures to Greek government debt, want to allow the country to extend the maturity of its bonds, which S&P said could be defined as a "selective default".
