Sold a faulty car from dealership

It doesn't make any difference what price the consumer pays.
yes it does, it cant be implied that the car would be perfect if the customer only paid a low price compared to a comparable 7 yr old car.
if the op paid top dollar for the car then fair enough but if they got a bargain bin car then ................Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
If the timing chain, or its function, is going to fail imminently, it is not of merchantable quality. If it is making a noise, different to what it should be, it is not of merchantable quality.
i bought my daughter an old corsa to run round in when she first passed her test and the chain rattled from day one until we bought anther car over a year later so its hardly going to fail imminently is it?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

How is the OP expected to know what other cars sell for, she is not a dealer or a trader, is she? I think your ideas on what "merchantable quality" is, is far lower than what the rest of the world expects.
If you bought a washing machine and it made a grinding noise, but still washed clothes, would you be happy with that? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Because you had one that didn't fail, none of them will? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

if it was about a quarter of the price of a new one, maybe third hand and still washed cloths then yes i would be ok, maybe not 100% happy but id be ok about it.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

I paid £3000 for the corsa 50k miles. It was from the bargain area of the dealership but that is no excuse. I'm not talking about a little noise, this thing was so loud you couldnt stand next to it and have a conversation.
I filed a complaint with evans halshaw by calling the head office. I got call on monday and they took the car back thursday, got it back thursday night and is now perfect. Not sure what was done but it is a relief as a timing chain would cose £500 making this a very expensive corsa (for its age)
Thank you for all your help, glad everything turned out fine
