I have a 1.2 2005 corsa and i dont have such a noise - get it looked at.0

these corsa engines are horrible things
1.o little always sounds like a bag of spanners once warm
1.2 renowned for breaking camshafts on this year
1.2 twinports blow up,just try finding a s/h one
oh yes they are cheap to insure so sell
theres the money saving angle
a lot of them are still group 1 or 2 insurance0 -
sounds like the timing chain needs doing, this is a common problem on the 1.2 especially if the car hasnt been looked after in the past. if you have no joy at the dealers then its going to cost around £375/£450 to sort out but if you are handy with the spanners you can do it yourself for about £130.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

this is the crux with these engines they are usually ill maintained and its easy for wrong oil to be fitted because people take short cuts
even i begrudge paying near £20 for 3 litres of the stuff plus a poor designed paper filter but these engines eat tensioners and then chains if the regime isnt adhered to
maybe people should either have an inspection prior to purchase done,do their homework,or speak to colleagues or take a friend before they make a major purchase and then find the engine noise grates
no offence by the way OP i do feel for you
maybe HO will offer an alternative now you have complained0 -

whilst this is good advice to a pre purchase, this does not exonerate a dealer from SOGA.
youve done a u turn from your first post here basicaly saying they do it a matter of normality forget about it to saying that the engines suffer timing chain tensioner and chain failure and that he should of have it pre checked, and because he didnt tuff.0 -

Are you really suggesting that the OP should be sorting this out after just a few days of ownership? If so, are you from another planet by any chance?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
We had a 1.2 of an earlier version of this engine.
Don't know about the timing belt but the cam did give out. A known weakness apparently due to oil supply to the top end on start up.
Had it from new it had done 20K and was out of warranty but it was fixed at no cost to me. Not the same I know.
Worryingly it had just done 2K driving round Europe, home on the Saturday no probs, Sunday afternoon it started and got worse pretty quickly."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

my suggestion was a very relevant one since he is having no joy with the dealers, if he has to get it fixed himself he can sue for the cash in the small claims. what is the point in leaving his car parked up while he tries to get satisfaction via the soga.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
After pondering on this for a couple of hours i realise that the dealer may not have to do anything at all. The OP bought a car which while worn is not broke as it is being driven, if wear was a factor in the SOGA then what about the wear on the tyres/clutch/brake pads/discs etc? would a dealer have to renew these aswell? The timing chain is an item that needs changing on a regular basis just like other parts of the car and although it is rattling its not failed yet.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Could be loose camshaft retaining bolts, it's a fault on some of the corsas, before the camshaft breaks eventually.
It's not wear and tear.0
