Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 13th June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Organised & capable? Moi? Thanks for the description MM, but I think laid back & idle would be more accurate! It's beginning to look like the weather may ruin next Saturday, cold I can cope with but the forecast is for more rain, oh well, what will be, will be.
I'm off to work soon, hubby has the week off, so he'll work himself up into a frenzy of nerves, I've told him I will not be happy if he decides to redecorate the kitchen Thursday night, it's the sort of thing that is likely when he gets wound up, lol.
Rubber chicken for tea tonight with HG new potatoes.
Have a good day everybody.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone - after yesterday's excesses it's back to 'old clothes and porridge' for us today.
Car has to go in this morning for a service, I have piles of work and the fridge can remain almost empty.
I hope everyone has a fine day though I know that some are having a difficult time so some hugs to them.0 -
Hester - how can you describe yourself as lazy with all you get done??? You,re always busy! Now describing me, yes, I'd go for "idle but has great plans"!
Real rain yesterday, steady, reasonably heavy and went on for hours. First rain like that in over three months. The garden has changed overnight to green again - we might even have to get the lawnmowr out this week!
DH is finally taking himself off to the doctor today as he is still in a great deal of pain from last week's car accident. DS has decided to come up to see us for several days this week - his room is still in chaos so it'll be the tiny room again for him.
We have tickets for Calendar Girls at the theatre tonight - really looking forward to that.
Have just spent an hour looking at the income/ expenditure. Hmm. We should be quite comfortable so why are we horribly overdrawn? Because we keep spending that's why! Really need to knock this on the head fast.
General tidy up plus thorough clean of upstais loo and bathroom today - new flooring in those areas tomorrow. We've had the same cork tiles down since we arrived 28 years ago (well I say "down" the problem is they're breaking up and coming away!) A necessity rather than a luxury then!
Need to get at the ironing pile and bake some more bread as well.
Thinking of cancelling my Curves membership as I found an old RConley exercise book yesterday... problem is, will I actually follow it? MInd you I'm rarely at Curves so at least I'd be saving the monthly fee!
Well, I'd best get DH's tea up to him. Hope you all have a great day. Do take care whatever you are up to!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Good morning everyone ,although its a very damp one here in north Kent.School run with the boys first thing then off to Sittingbourne to pick up my new car.I have changed from petrol to diesl so I'm hoping for lower transport costs.I wonder what new gadgets will be fitted on this one .I change my car every three years and every time there are new bits stuck on,I believe this one has a reversing alarm which I think will be handy.
I have caught up with my sleep after Saturdays adventures in Belgium so I don't feel quite so worn out.I shall play with my car today so I won't be doing a lot of OSing.
meanmarie just read your last nights post I am so sorry for your friends little one what a dreadful decision to have to make I will remember him tonight when I have my nightly chat to the Big Guy upstairs It sure can't hurt.
<<hugs to those of you who are feeling down or blue>> Summer seems to have gone away for a little while but it will be back I'm sure .We desperately need some of this wet stuff I just wish it wasn't so blooming chilly.
Right I'm off to have a toasted banana sandwich for breakfast and a large dollop of caffeine to get my inner self moving Take care all and have a good Monday (if thats not an oxymoron):):)0 -
Morning Hester, Gers and all who cross and follow,
Today is my beautiful boys birthday, can't believe he's 10, where did the time go? Sleepover went really well at the weekend and I was so chuffed when one of DS's friend's couldn't believe I'd made all the cakes and the other kids all piped up that they were far better than shop bought. Proves my point that HM always tastes better.
Plans today is to go to the gym, hoover round, might do a tip run, also need to pick the dog up.
Going out to my local Italian tonight to buy DS spaghetti and clams, so no washing up.
Have a good day all and big hugs to those who need one.

Morning!!!!!!
The grey with patches of blue, and i can see sparrows dodging my fat knacker of a cat!
thanks for starting the thread Hester!
Well on my course today and guess what it feels warmish. Last night we had more power cuts grrrr, so washing machine stopped mi-flow, this is the end of washing on the night for me. so tons of cleaning, i.e the cupboards in the kitchen and under the stairs. I'm determined to get them done by the end of week.
OS stuff make soup, salad for lunch and tea, attempt some mild exercise and make bread as were running scarily low.
Have a good day all!0 -
Morning everyone,
It rained for hours here yesterday, the garden is so grateful, everything is looking greener and so much better.
Today is one of those days when I shall be running around trying to catch up with myself all day, have work and then this evening have to get DS to a cricket match, DD1 to kayaking and DD2 to netball, I am so grateful to the friends who help out with all the lifts. DS and DD1 will have left for their activities before I even get home from work so I have made a big dish of pasta bake and left it in the fridge for them to help themselves.
Packed lunches are lined up on the side in the kitchen so I better go and make sure that the right one goes to the right child.
Jannyannie, happy birthday to your son.
Have a good day everyone.:)0 -
Morning everyone
Dull, wet and windy here. DH up and off to work at nearly stupid early o'clock.
Had a good weekend, very chilled/lazy, both boys went fishing after the adult competition on Saturday, they fished 3.30pm to 5.30pm, DS1 total catch 20lb 5 and DS2's catch 11lb - they both did very well and really enjoyed themselves. DH isn't into fishing at all but they had an adult sitting with each of them, think they both learnt lots. Put the new awning up on Friday night and then had to take it down in the rain yesterday, so now need to try to get it dry as we're not away until first weekend in July and can't leave it folded up wet for too long.
Hoping work won't be too busy today but have a nasty feeling it will be, it's a Monday and a wet one at that - not nice enough weather to sit outside in the garden! Dinner tonight will be gammon, egg, new pots, peas and onion sauce. Have menu planned for this week, so should be pretty organised.
Right better crack on.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all!!
Miserable day again here today. Due to my roast and huuuuge dinner on saturday i have lost 0.4lbs this week! AF is here too which might have something to do with it!
Milkman did not deliver our milk or crisps today for some reason so OH is not happy! I need to go to the shops at some point today - do i travel to sainsbobs where the shop will be cheaper or walk to waitrose where i save travel costs but will spend more money....sainsbobs i think.
We have l/o roast chicken for dinner tonight, but i don't know what to do with it as our food stores are running dangerously low. We've new potatoes, may just do another chicken dinner.
Lunch will be peanut butter on toast, i have to come home a check on pup today so will pop on later
OH got a call about a private job last night which he's going to quote for on Wednesday evening, that will be nice if he gets the work as they normally pay cash. Hopefully his summer contract boss pays him soon too as well. We do need it!
kitchen needs cleaned and bedding changed, also need to make some cereal bars/muffins for OH's lunch box, have some pastry so will do sausage rolls too.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
Debt payments 2012 £433.270 -
morning!
didn't get chance to post or read yesterday - work and lots of taxi duty for me. DS1's car had to be towed back here - problems with the immobiliser/key and we had to take him home to Worcester afterwards while we try and get it sorted out. He's hoping due to technology that he can do his radio show from home today.
I'm off to work soon, just got some jobs to do first and need to have a look in the freezer for something for tea.
have had a tidy through and got the WM on.
Jannyannie - Happy Birthday to your DS :bdaycake:
JackieO - hope you like your new car - we have a car at work with the parking sensor in it - I dont like it myself as its ver anoying beeping away. I do like diesel cars to drive though
(((hugs))) to those in need of them today x
have a great day all - the suns just come out here:TDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning all. I've been trying to clear out and pack for my move all weekend but not got very far, progress was halted when I dropped a full tub of tooth powder into my underwear drawer and had to wash everything
I popped into waitrose friday night for a few bits and other than coming out with some super reduced organic grown by angels in the swiss alps blah blahhh bread I got some squid and mussels. They're only £7/kg at the counter, the same price as Lidl's chicken/pork! I'm going to see if I can get them for even less at the market next time.
Today: more packing; clean the bathroom; spend lots of money on other people for birthday, anniversary presents and father's dayLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0
