By not buying a monthly ticket for the periods you are on holiday and by buying odd period tickets to fit round them then buying monthlies MAY work out cheaper

Yeah possibly. Of course you could take you nice month long holiday in between yearly season tickets renewals, i.e. only renewing every 13 months. Save even more than. :)

In reality, even with 25 days annual leave (+ bank hols) a year, I struggle to get more than 7 consecutive days off. Even when I am on holiday, I still end up using my card, to visit attractions in the centre or get to big train stations/airports. Less so, now I have a car, but its still handy for holiday time too.

Have you thought of getting a 2-6 zone ticket and then using the bus for the final part. I work at Monument and zone 2 is very close to The City. I take the train to the edge of zone 2 and then walk the rest or, if it is raining, hop on a bus as the buses don't operate on the zonal system.

Errr?! Monthly zone 1-6 pass is £193.60 per month. So £2323.20 a year. Where as the Yearly zone 1-6 pass is only £2016. That's £307.20 cheaper. So unless you're taking two months each off on holiday, why would you bother going monthly?!
who can guarantee anything for a year?!

Get a refund then. Bare in mind you only pay for 40 weeks on your season anyway and get 52 weeks travel

That's a matter between you and your ex-employer, isn't it?

Not sure how 'the railway' can help with that.

I think most companies today don't normally buy the season ticket for you, but give out season ticket company loans. So if you get dismissed or you quit, then the loan is still outstanding so it's in your interest to get a refund to pay the loan off.

If it is paid for with a company cheque(as a lot of employer loan seasons are) then the cheque for any outstanding amount is made out back to the company.
