Sounds to me like your husband is suffering from severe depression. His anger probably stems from feeling frustrated at being off sick and in pain from a back injury.

What was he like before the injury. Has he always been a bit verbally aggressive or is this quite a recent thing.

I think any marriage is worth fighting for. Next time he is calm say to him how much he means to you and how much your relationship means to you and that you want to work things out. That should get a reaction from him and you will quickly see how he feels about things now.
