I am going to have to get my onions up tomorrow, I have started lifting garlic. I hope this rain has done my runner beans some good the flowers seemed to be a bit behind, some have set with tiny beans but some of the flowers are dropping off. I haven't seen many bees about either

  • I too have run out of containers, 4 water butts full plus about 12 other varying size containers - basically anything that can have water and be safe in the garden. Covered those with no lids with chicken wire to prevent accidents. Just hoping it warms up a bit or there's going to be some damping off I wouldn't usually expect in the 'dry, warm' South East.

Would like a lot more sunshine and a lot less rain. Here in Cumbria we've had few days without rain for the last 6 weeks. As soon as I started planting out the plants I'd hardened off, the high winds destroyed most of them and any haistily replanted seeds have failed to thrive due to rain and cold temps. :(

It's times like this that I would like to move a few hundred miles south!

It has rained here all day, but my big water butt only has about 3 inches in it, and the guttering pipe thing to it, is not blocked I've just checked.!

Has the connection bit slipped at all?
One of ours was in the down pipe a bit far so the water wasn't getting through, try and wiggle it out a little or cut a bit off it if it's a bit to long

Bucketing down here in Bournemouth, pretty windy too. My carrots, toms, courgettes, strawbs and onions are all getting a huge soaking - hope they'll be OK, I havent got anything to pretect them with.

Well I'm such a novice,.. I've read that a wet warm June can bring tomato blight. I know we need the rain, - but I'd be gutted if I lost my toms to blight. The heavy rain (easing now) means the tops of my carrots are now poking through the soil, but I don't want to pick them yet either so have shoved some more soil in to cover them - hope that works?

I used to live in cumbria. There was nothing like ambling along a rain soaked footpath full of wet plants, ah the smell I remember it now. It was near kendal and we almost got a house near penrith 7 years ago but (thankfully) it fell through. It is so much warmer down here
