Although completely (well not entirely) off topic. I have a Mazda3 and future car is either going to me Mazda3 MPS or RX-8. Not sure which yet ;)

Make sure you post plenty of pics if you get one ;)

Because this is moneySAVING expert not NOT moneysaving expert..

I was expecting something better than that!!

With that being the case, why not suggest a 15 year old 306?

The difference between an RX8 and a Mondeo is about the same as between a Mondeo and an old 306....

If you'd said something like "buy a 350Z" or "buy a Holden Monaro" or even "buy an Audi TT" I might have been able to reconcile your words with the real world.

I bet you suggest a Ford when someone wants to replace their fridge as well.

Sorry for the rant. It's just that there is a section of people out there for whom the answer to every single motoring question is "buy the Ford". It baffles me, as I have never found them particularly interesting or high quality on any level.

"I want a screaming rotary-engined sports car". "Buy a Mondeo hatchback". Yawn.

I was looking at random cars and car insurance, a friend has just got a RX-8, and it got me looking at quotes, I was amazed I could get one insured for around £700!

Are they any good? I had kinda picked the Mondeo ST220 as my next car, but not sure which one would be more fun (main reason I want one). Both give similar MPG I believe (not much xD), however the ST220 would be more particle (doesn't look spelt right?) due to its size. The ST220 is a bit more to insure (around £1,000).

It won't be for a few months that I can consider going to test drive them both, but wanted to know a bit about them.

Any other suggestions would be good as well, looking for something fun to drive, not fussed about speed, but would be a bonus...I'm bored of my diesel and being stuck at the lights xD.

    Original post.Mondeo and RX8 up for comparison.Hmmm...
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.

KierNet, no problem. Rear seats are totally usable, depends on who is in front, I'm 6'2" and you wouldn't want to sit behind me for a long journey, and I'd have to sit forwards a bit, but 4 people around town is fine. Think Corsa/Clio. Getting in and out of the back is MUCH easier than a 3-door because of the cool rear doors. I was driving mine 2 miles up and down to the train and felt like I was abusing it (as you would with any car TBH), but as long as there are plenty of long runs to offset that (and plenty of revs, you actually have to rev it or else some bits can get gunked up!) you'll be OK.
RX-8 is not a money pit. Buying a Mondeo instead of an RX-8 is not necessarily moneysaving, it could just be being a tightwad. Moneysaving is getting what you want, cheaper, not just buying cheap stuff. A good deal on a Ferrari is more moneysaving than a full price Fiesta. Problem with the RX-8 is there are cheap ones around that HAVE been abused and DO have engine problems, these are the ones to avoid (or buy cheap and recon the engine). Too often in the RX8 forum people come in and cry about their car, which they have bought without researching and either they or the previous owner has abused it. That's not fair on a car, and that's what funkycoldribena is referring to with these warranty claims. 'My engine's dead' - there's no oil in it! I've heard of them fail at 25,000 funkycoldribena if you want to spread that one around. Will that turn into 'a lot' as well?

Have all you guys that own an RX8 bought them new, just seems from the milages quoted they probably were??

How about someone who's bought an old 'un?, or an idication from the op as to what age car he's about to get??

All in the interest of balance of course, ;)

Thanks! What is it like as a daily user? My main use will be going to and from work (around 2 miles each way) and to and from duty, which is 15 miles each way. Are the back seats possible to use? Or are they just there to look good?

    What would you recommend then?

Two miles each way walk, you lazy !!!!.

I'm looking at one before 2006, purely as the tax is about £200 cheaper! And it will be cheaper to buy lol (hopefully).
