    not maintained they blow up
    bad on fuel
    eat oil
its like a high maintenance, wife you either want one or you dont

    guess my position:D

That's my take on it too and only confirmed by rikbar who does run one.

15mpg?, couldn't live with that, my last weekend car ran at about 225bhp from a n/a 2ltr calibra engine, still did 30mpg unless I went absolutely crazy with it, auto.gif
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

harveybobbles and funkycoldribena are trading pub trivia here.
I've owned one and researched it a lot before I did.
They DO NOT need an engine rebuild every 40,000 miles. That was the RX-7, and it was 60,000!
They DO flood in one special circumstance - stopping the engine when it's still cold - you need to let it warm up, watch for the temp needle going past the first notch, or if you must stop it cold, hold the revs at 4,000 rpm, then take out the key.
Oil - they're designed to use oil, unlike piston engines, they actually pump oil into the engine for lubrication, each car is different, but mine used 3 litres of oil in 8 months. If a monthly oil check puts you off, don't buy it. Dipstick is in a stupid place though!
Starters - the first ones were a bit weak and most replaced.
Coil packs - not a service item according to Mazda, owners club reckons replace them every 30,000 miles.
asbokid - servicing - What part of the servicing is complicated? Everything outside the engine is pretty standard?
MPG - my real world experience is 20mpg if you're stuck with town driving, and 25mpg if it's more motorway. If you're going to be driving around trying to save fuel, this is not the car for you. Good news is driving hard doesn't make it much worse (15 at lowest for me!).
The 190 has only a bit more low end torque, one gear less and no xenon headlights. For the price difference and insurance allowing, go for the 230. It revs to 9,500rpm. If you don't like revving, this is not the car for you.

So plenty of facts that may put you off, but ignore the pub gossip.
The car has so much feel and is so well connected to the road. The traction control is good and lets the car lose a little grip before reigning you in, and can of course be completely switched off. The stereo is amazing, the seats, front and back, very comfortable, the boot is a good size (but the access to it isn't amazing) and the sound of the engine (and the beep telling you to change soon) is just awesome.
    Or buy a Mondeo...

To be honest if you're the sort of person that doesn't check the oil of ANY car once a month then you shouldn't really be driving.... :p

"The oil light came on and then the engine blew up. Dealer won't pay up. How do I sue?"

Not changing pub trivia whatsoever. Not sure if I can link to another forum but you'll see a lot of back up to what has been said.Im not saying all RX8s need rebuilding at 40k,but a lot do,not all Renaults are useless,Ive known people own them with no problems at all but I'd never advise buying one.Personally I dont want a car that does 15-20mpg when fuels 140 a litre, has problems with cold starts and in SOME cases needs an engine rebuild quite early in its life(in some cases-ok!) but if you can live with that then fair enough.
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
  • The Mazda will need an engine rebuild every 40,000 miles... Mondeo will be more fun and easier to sell on again.
Typical urban myth. I've owned and run my RX-8 for nearly 2 years with no issues whatsoever. Sailed past 40000, serviced and MOT no problems, insurance £300 fully comp!
If you mistreat any car it'll come back to haunt you!!!! I'd rather drive my RX-8 than a ford any day of the week, try it if you don't believe me.

15mpg...no thanks!! If you can afford to throw money away on fuel then you can afford something better than an RX-8.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

So, if you abuse the Mondeo and the clutch breaks, that's the driver's fault for breaking the car.

If you abuse the Mazda, don't service it correctly, don't check the oil and neglect it, and the engine breaks, that's Mazda's fault for building a crap engine.

    Hmmm.

FWIW my ex-boss had an RX8 and ran it to 80,000 miles without issue of any kind. Sold it purring like a kitten.

And the comparison isn't valid anyway. Fords are not the be-all and end-all drivers' cars they are made out to be. The MK3 wasn't bad but the MK4 is a big wobbly jelly and nothing like as agile as the Mazda. All this rubbish about Ford handling is something dreamt up by people who have only ever owned Fords and Vauxhalls and worshipped the Focus because it was better than the Escort/Astra that went before it. Well I have news for you -- that's all relative -- even the Nissan bloody Sunny handled better than the Escort (the last one quite a bit better in fact).

And yes I do own a Ford. It's wishy-washy, does the job, nowt special.

Sorry for the rant. It's just that there is a section of people out there for whom the answer to every single motoring question is "buy the Ford". It baffles me, as I have never found them particularly interesting or high quality on any level.

"I want a screaming rotary-engined sports car". "Buy a Mondeo hatchback". Yawn.
