Debenhams Sale - returns WARNING

I bought some clothes during the week in the half price sale. Went to return them becasue they were not suitable and was told I could NOT have a refund as they were bought with 50% off. I had to either exchange or get money put on a gift card - HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THAT !! Anyone know if they can actually do that ??

I think that's the norm with any clothes stores with a sale on. The cashier usually makes it clear at the till that they are non-refundable. If he/she didn't say anything, then read your receipt.

You have no legal right to a refund for the items, unless they are faulty.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

You have no statutory right to a refund for goods bought in a shop that aren't faulty. Returns are down to the policy of the shop. Provided they have followed their terms and conditions, they are free to do as they wish.

Because you agreed to their T&Cs when you puchased the items in the first place, that's how. As above, you have no statutory rights to return an item unless it's faulty, the only rights you have are governed by the store's T&Cs.

Debenhams have followed this policy for ages now.

Our cashiers still warn you 99% of the time though.

remember by buying these clothes in the sale and finding them not suitable
you have denied another consumer the chance of the 50% bargain you bought
when i was in retail you got your money back but were told very sternly not to be so naughty in future and try things on first

thats all fair enough but things arent alway that smooth.
I bought something from Marks and spencers which i thought was at full price as there was no sale tickets and no sale merchandise around it.

I took it back for a refund as I didnt want it anymore only to be told the item was a sale item and I couldnt. It had actually come out on the receipt at a cheaper price but I didnt notice as I bought a few full price things. the sales assistant was also very busy so never told me it was on sale.

Anyway after arguing with the manager for 20 minutes (who told me that I must be blind not to see the terms and conditions of sale items surrounding sale stuff), I pointed out that the item was still advertised at full price and had no sale conditions around it..

I got my money back soon after...:p

Regardless of whether it's on sale or not you are not entitled to a refund simply because you "didn't want it any more"

that is true but marks and spencers do have a 28 day money back (or there abouts) if you dont want the item and all tags are present and you have the recepit:)
