He'll not be grown up until you're by the roadside extricating your car from a tree...I can't really carry on walking round with my trousers falling down anymore!

I'm just a believer in thinking - it's surprising how many people think it's optional.Life not too great here - dad is doing well following an eleven hour operation to remove his tumour, but sadly my m-i-l passed away a week ago following a long illness.

We have hardly any equity in the houses so won't end up with a great deal after everything is split 50/50.
Do the usual "seek advice" thing. Insolvency does have downsides which may not be immediately obvious. The main one (at least as long as it lasts) is a lack of discretionary power as to your spending.I can kind of understand the thing about the house, can you imagine the Daily Mail headlines? 'Scrounger buys house while on benefits'.
The chances of you getting on the front page of the Daily Wail are so small that you may as well buy a lottery ticket. You can't live your life on the presumption that someone might say something unpleasant.
Besides, the Daily Wail only bitches about unearned income, and your mother did earn that money.Apart from, like I said, it'll cost the state more in the long run. I have been musing over other options, which are legal but totally ridiculous. Like buying a house to rent out to cover my lost income, and carry on living in my council flat. Legally right, morally wrong.
No. Legally right, morally right. The benefit system is designed to keep people suckling at the teat of Government largess. This is so they will vote as the nipple tells them. That's also why the benefits system has marginal tax rates sometimes in excess of 100% just to keep people dependent and subdued. Read stuff that Frank Field produced and even (though you may dismiss him as a Daily Wail shill) Theodore Dalrymple.Totally agree about another meet!

Morning all
So nice to "see" everyone. Hugs to all, so many things happening to everyone at the moment.
Things are hectic here as we're swamped with boxes and bubble wrap awaiting the completion on the house we're buying. We've gone from being up to our necks in debt to debt free and able to get a decent mortgage in the past 6 months.....bit of a whirlwind really. House is much more suitable for DH though and has lots of downstairs space.
Hope this becomes more of a regular feature, I've missed it!!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Pooky I am so glad things have turned around for you financially
I am off to visit MIL in Lancashire today, setting off in an hour or so. We are taking her brother with us as he hasnt seen her since the move from the North East. I hope he doesnt get upset with the decline in her dementia and we can all have a pleasant day together. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

Morning All
I can't really think of anything to report, because my life just plods on really. My daughter was being made redundant but that was revoked on Friday as they are pretty sure another company are taking them over, so that is a relief. Her health doesn't get any better, poor girl, but she is so positive I admire her so much. Her jewellery selling has been amazing recently so that has kept her busy (it distracts her from her pain) but she would always welcome more sales
As to me, well just really busy at work which is good, and then home to do what needs doing each evening and then bed! Yes, my life really is that exciting. Ooh well I did celebrate my 50th at the end of March and had an amazing time, thanks to my daughter and also debt freeness is just around the corner (about 3 months should do it).
We have applied to our local council to be able to apply for bungalows due to my daughters disability, so we are just waiting to hear if we are successful with that. It would make a big difference if we could move to a bungalow. A ground floor flat would be good too, but I worry about all the associated noises with flats which would exacerbate my daughters problems. Noise and light make her pain worse, so imagining people walking past the door, slamming doors and possibly hearing them walk overhead would be a constant nightmare for her.
