Critical illness insurance claim - wish us luck!

Spoke to Scottish Widows yesterday, they confirmed they had received my husband's medical notes from his GP but no sign of anything from his Consultant. They said the GP had sent them lots of information and that they may be able to make a decision based on this alone. Will keep the forum updated.

My husband's consultant still hasn't sent her report to Scottish Widows. We have chased her and so have Scottish Widows and she's been saying 'it just needs typing up and it should be sent this week' for the last two weeks! We just need to know whether or not we're going to get our claim accepted and the waiting is excruciating. Any ideas on how to hurry things up?0

Have you spoken to the consultant's secretary? Try calling her and going the desperate/waterworks route rather than the missus angry.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Hi, thanks! I spoke to the Consultant's Secretary yesterday and she said that she had just been handed the report to send out so we should hear something soon.0

Good to hear they finally got a move on, as someone who's worked for a claims team for a number of years I can honestly say one of the biggest delays on a CI case are consultants.
I've personally been ringing for some reports on a daily basis, but we have no power to make them produce the report, only the claimant can do this! What really takes the biscuit is the £150 fee they then charge for a 2-4 page document!0 -

My wife's oncologist only got £60, which clearly wasn't enough as the form was in a pile on his radiator.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Its surprising how often that seems to happen, granted £150 is the top of the scale for reports (as we question anything above that) but even £60 for whats often photocopies of letters/computer printouts should make them take more care.0 -
OK, so we were told last Wednesday by the Consultant's Secretary that she had just been handed the report and would send it out by the end of the week........ rang Scottish Widows yesterday to check they had received it but still no sign of it!
Called the Consultant's Secretary to ask if it had been sent but it hasn't!!!!
When I reminded her what she had said last Wednesday about having just been handed the report to send out, she denied ever saying that. The report apparently just needs the Consultant's signature (who is now on leave!) but her Registrar can sign in her absence.
So I said, 'so the report will go tomorrow then when it's been signed' only to be told, 'it will go out by the end of the week'.
Why will it take a bloody week to get a signature?????!!!!!!!
We are seeing the Registrar today and are going to complain about the length of time this is taking. Granted, it's not day-to-day hospital work and has probably been put to the bottom of the priority pile but to us it's vital and we need to be able to sort out our finances.
This is just unwanted stress on top of an already stressful situation.0 -

I think you're adopting just the right combination of patience and frustration, and I agree that a mild complaint is in order.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
