Anyone else starting to find Firefox a bit tedious?

I first started to use firefox when it was version 2.x, and at the time it was a complete revelation compared to IE6 I was using at the time. Faster, less bloated, cleaner interface. But with each upgrade it seems to become more like the browser it was trying to replace. I'm now running 3.6.17 and I have several niggling problems that are starting to really annoy me and set me wondering if it's now time to ditch it. Particularly, any page containing flash animation is painfully slow to navigate, trying to scroll a page with a flash advertising banner for example is really painful. Secondly, it often refuses to open pdfs within the browser, it displays a blank screen (with 'done' shown in the status bar) or else a black screen with the pdf loading indicator stopped at 100%. If I opt to save these pdfs instead they subsequently open without problems.

Oh, and not to mention the
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." error message which appears to be a new 'feature' from 3.6.15 onwards.

Is anyone else having these problems? Fed up with firefox?

For info I'm using win XP 32 bit and all my plugins are up to date.

PS I have no desire to change my OS to Linux thanks, I'm sure it's great, but not for me right now. My system is scanned and clean (malwarebytes, spybot, AVG, trend micro). Thought about chrome but worried about all the other stuff google trys to install these days, don't want a browser that phones home every day or insists on integrating gmail and all the other google gadgets.

Thanks for your input

Hmmm a little bit OTT considering the OP is only having problems with their web browser (besides, Ubuntu has to be the first choice if looking for a linux OS)

My advice would be to give either Chrome or Opera a try. Haven't used Firefox for a few years now, as I found it to be quite sluggish after I tried Chrome. New version of Opera is pretty good too, only find it to be a little slower than Chrome, and it certainly seems to handle a few web pages better than Chrome does...

I'm another chrome fan - tried opera just the other week and although it first seemed pretty good, I missed chrome so switched back - horses for courses I think.

OP might like to try it though if his computer is all bogged up
or he could back up and do a nice clean install if he has the disc
it does sound an old one after all and linux is so good these days that you can run it and know nothing about computers because mint 10 is so good:)

Yeah, until something goes wrong and then they have no idea what they are doing. You'd be surprised how many people who use linux have no idea what a Terminal is...

Isn't that about the same for a lot of Windows users though? How many windows users know how to get to a command prompt?

True. But the command prompt in Windows isn't as crucial as the terminal in Linux, especially when debugging/updating...

Nope but if they haven't got recovery environment then it's return to Factory Settings

Firefox - be aware that it makes it easy to install add-ins, and add-ins are the biggest factor in slowing down startup. Do you have many add-ins installed? Get rid of them, see if that helps!
