i also understand why you don't want to share your personal details, but sometimes they're relevant and you must understand yourself that if you don't give the full story people might well assume the worst of you.

i understand what you are saying but if someone assumes the worst then that just their personality type ,[glass half full/empty ?] i personally try [dont always manage] to not always look for the worst in people.

    UPDATE-
I requested an assessment and that was completed last week ,today we have recieved a letter stating we are now in the priority classification . i can bid on 2 bedroom bungalows that have been adapted and when we do eventually move social services will come and see if theres anything else they can help with (ie shower seat)
obviously im very happy and im sure there will be plenty of negative comments aimed at me so unless there are specific questions asked i probably wont reply to the more argumentative replys.

I'm impressed you came back to give an update, given some of the responses upthread. Fingers crossed all will go well.

I'm not sure you're going to be able to specify that you want a bungalow? I cannot see any council near me responsing favourably to this, but obviously different where you are. However, if I was you, I would be prepared for a long wait, and also to be housed in a property of their choosing, not yours.

As you say you will be paying rent yourselves (as opposed to housing benefit), why not rent privately and choose a property that suits you?

the letter states i can bid on any 2 bed adapted bungalow,it also referrs to the areas we requested and the fact social services will be involved once we move, during the assessment the lady told us that her recommendation would be that we apply for a property with a graded floor [shower room], of course i dont expect it to be immediate but it gives me time to sort out things at home.

    Hi

just being cheeky, but can I ask which area you live in? just a vague idea. I am in the process of doing this for my cousin who has autism/learning disability. His mum bought thier council house so that he would always have somewhere to live and its been a nightmare for the past few years. No help for him from soc services with housing at all because he has his own house. No matter that he cant afford to live there, pay the bills, make repairs or even change a light bulb for himself, the attitude has been " take out a loan and pay for help/ repairs yourself. This to a man who cannot read and write and cannot talk to strangers. ( I do not live anywhere near him, but I do look after him long distance)

Some people do not understand how hard it is for a disabled person to move into private rented accomadation. Top of the list is that a lot of private landlords just will not rent to people like him--they will always find reasons that have nothing to do with disadility tho. And an autistic person just cannot take the threat of having to move every 6 months.

We have now given up--I have let the house fall into total disrepair and have told soc services that I will do nothing more to help. I have stopped paying the bills and we have finally been told that he can go onto band B for sheltered housing.

Just a little bit of help would have prevented this.

We live in south yorkshire, all the financial issues aside my dd will probably need asissted [sp] living accomodation once we are gone so i have to be sure she doesnt slip under the radar of the local authority.
i see what we are doing now as vital to safe guard her in the future as well as easing our overall situation.

You are so right to do this. Bromley LA refuse to help my cousin, because, apparently, he doesnt need any help. How they can sleep at night I dont know. One day I am going to visit him and find him dead at the bottom of his stairs because he fell in the dark.

    goodluck.

UPDATE- We have a 2 bed bungalow , we got the keys on Wednesday.
Now the fun begins to get it decorated then move in and get the house ready to sell so we spend the least amount of time possible paying rent and mortgage.
