I think the "sending a soldier" a parcel is a lovely idea but as a wife who is desperate for for hubby to receive his little xmas gifts from myself and the kids these things can get frustrating. The BFPO post office do seem to have a system in place now where family members stuff should get through first but thats not fail safe and some people/organisations now just ask for a soldiers name and go from there to do it that way, which of course holds up genuine families and friends parcels. I feel awful for even moaning about such a kind gesture that people make to cheer up a squaddie away from home
But clogging the system really does affect everyone
Having hubby/ family member get their parcel is not just moral lifting for them, its also pretty lifting for us back home to. Its lovely hearing them talking about their parcel, laughing over the joke bits, thanking you for the needed bits....it helps us left behind to feel like we are still doing something, its gutting when given the expected delays that can and do happen are held up even more because of things that could be avoidedSorry for being a miser.
