Good shout on No French, Ill let you into a secret, even the French dont buy French cars
3k buys a 2006 petrol Mondeo, a time tested rep-mobile, the ghia x is the pride of the pack.
Diesel cars cost around 40% more to purchase and are expensive to keep maintained plus diesel is more expensive.
In short less than 18k a year and you dont see a benefit.

I can only assume you have never been to France.

The French are one of few nations that are actually patriotic when it comes to buying cars.

I don't know exact figures but i would think 60 or 70% of cars on the road in France are French made.

And 3k will easily get you a 2006 diesel Mondeo, less for the relatively unloved petrol models.

Unless of course you buy at large dealerships.

Or at least that is the impression i get every time i drive around France, and when you see a French registered car driving around London they always seem to be French cars aswell.

My wife had a 2002 Laguna once, the worst pile of junk I have ever seen, what on earth were they thinking when they made such a pig of a car.
One thing after another, day after day, after day, horrible, car.
Some mug bought it as well from the Auctions.
Hope they took a tow rope,

Peugoet partner, Renault Kangoo or Citroen Berlingo... perfect.

To be fair my parents have a Peugeot Partner and it is MASSIVE. Seats 5 adults comfortably. The boot is huge too. I hated it when they first bought it, but its a decent car. They've done 60k miles in it in 3/4 years, they pull a caravan to europe with it 2/3 times a year, they've never had any problems with it. they hadthe clutch changed on it, but thats it...

But if you're adamant about French cars (Peugeot/Citroen are nowhere near as bad as they used to be) i would look at the galaxy...

    Definately never been to France.

Back to the op though, if you need three kiddy seats or boosters in the back, you'll be hard pushed to find many cars that you'll fit them into.

I am looking for car suggestions desperately.

Needs to hold 2 adults, 3 kids (2 in highback boosters and 1 in a rear facing seat currently) pram and all the assorted crap you carry with 3 kids under 5. Will do about 8000 miles a year mostly in town.

Financial limit is around 3k and I don't want french but not fussed of year.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Why not French?

Wow, so one car and all French cars are rubbish? What would happen if you had had a dodgy Fiesta; all American cars are rubbish and even the Americans don't buy them?

Drive anywhere in France, you see 2cv's going back to the 50's, and every other car the french made ever since. They appear to last forever over there.
