They knew it was in the loft, when I rang them to make the appointment I explained that someone would need to be there as the ladder is kept in the garage.

Right, I've got the cert infront of me. There is a statement that flues are inspected visually for satisfactory evacuation of products of combustion but not a detailed inspection.

Going on the the tick box/details section they knew what make and model it was, the pressure passed (this is in a cupboard at the top of the stairs and was checked) ventilation satisfactory - yes, visual condition of flue, flue flow test, spillage test, termination satisfactory, appliance safe to use, all lass or yes.

    Thanks guys

Yeah, I think the one we had before last was just super thorough and gave us a copy. I *think* the engineer has to take the readings though and keep them with HIS copy of the certificate? Wouldn't bet my ilfe savings on it though...

Just looked through a certificate - Make, model, type, flue type, operating pressure, safety device correct operation, combustion analyser reading, (This is what was on the little emissions print out time before last, among other things) so yes, these things ARE recorded.

It will be 100% obvious if he did or didn't say he inspected the boiler. Along with the "Number of appliances tested" box, they will all be listed.

We had our Gas Safety Inspection a couple of months ago and the print out of the readings is attached to our copy of the certificate, as were the previous two inspections.

I still think he would have to see the boiler (as in the burner chamber) to be able to inspect the flue, make sure it wasn't cracked/damaged and didn't have sooty deposits all over it?

Is pressure check the WATER pressure (which can and will vary depending on how often you check to refill it!) or GAS pressure, which again you'd have to be at the burner to check?

Not scaremongering, just read too many stories of tragedy that could have been so easily prevented - little sister's schoolfriend dropping dead in the shower 'cos boiler output was finding its way into the "cubicle".

Just call the guy that did it and have a friendly chat, he'll probably put your mind at ease :) I'd personally want to know how a boiler's safety could be assertained without looking at it...

Nothing else in the house is Gas, just the CH. We own all the White goods, there wasn't even a cooker when we moved in so these were not checked.

CP12 doesn't require emission stats. The only numbers you generally see is in the first block on the inspection details section i.e. Operating Pressure in mbar (about 20). The inspector would also put in the first block of the Appliance details section the location of the appliance (so it should say loft). That would be indicative if he knew where it was located. However, that doesn't guarantee he saw it (maybe he installed it and knew where it was).
So, if the form has the location, the make and model e.g. Potterton Suprima and he checked that he inspected it, I guess it would be his word versus yours (and you were at work). Be sure your right, then go ahead and report him to the authorities. If your not sure, then tread lightly.

Some contracts have both the safety inspection and a service report at the same time. The CP12 doesn't require combustion readings etc. in order to pass the appliance safe. The CP12 is titled LANDLORD/HOME OWNER GAS SAFETY RECORD.

The inspector still would have to have seen the boiler and physically start it to check the colour of the flame.

Like I say, the guy before last was very thorough and very squeaky clean.

OP - Certainly tread lightly. But make sure it's definitely all safe!

My OH was in and his parents are brother were here too. Why he didnt question it there and then is beyond me! When we moved in there was no way to access the loft and we had to purchase a ladder to get up there so he would need to asked for this to get in.

A neighbour is a gas cert plumber, I might grab him first and ask his opinion.

    This.

    :D

I was going to suggest calling another engineer just for a chat but they might have to see the installation. If you can whip your neighbour round, it's all good! :T
