Gas Safety Inspection - Not performed correctly?

We rent a house with GCH and our bolier is in the loft. Yesterday we had our annual gas safety inspection and according the the paperwork left with my OH (I was at work) he has ticked that everything passed but he never went into the loft to see the boiler. Now, I'm no expert but is what he has put on here wrong and do I need to raise it with my LA?

Yeah, certifying all gas appliances as safe would require looking at them.

The boiler is mentioned on the certificate yes? And he definitely didn't see the boiler? If it's not, then it's a bit bizarre but he's not certified the boiler as safe - so get him back round pronto.

Goto gas safe website and report the engineer. http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/ look up the engineer, see if he's even on the register!

Did the LA arrange this inspection?

A full Gas Safety Inspection would necessitate the boiler being examined by a Gas Safe registered engineer. I would take this up with your landlord asap IN WRITING

You could do, but if the GasSafe inspector says he did inspect the boiler, then what?

Good one. And if answers the question correctly without calling a friend?

Meh, whatever. Call HSE and explain the situation. They will mark down the inquiry and if the guy slips up again, he already has a mark against his name. They are very friendly at HSE, I have dealt with them regarding gas safety inspections previously.

Bottom line is, OP needs to make sure their boiler is safe. So, get onto the LA and sort it out
    :)

Whether the engineer entered the loft or not should be fairly obvious. Is there an easy way up? etc etc. Gas certificates normally have boiler make and model written down, what does the certificate say? Where's the print out of emissions? It's generally relatively easy to determine if a boiler was checked or not.

I'd reckon he'd go 50/50 if he didn't know, let's face it he can't ask the audience! ;)

The inspector will have passed what he has seen, it should be on the paperwork, with the boiler being in the loft then there is a good chance he didn't even know it was there.
If he has written on the paperwork that he has passed the boiler then he has commited an offence that may get him struck of the gas safe register.
Before you report him though wht does the paperwork say he has inspected. If the boiler isn't on it them tell the LA to send him back.

Definately contact agent, and if they are disinterested, the landlord. Last year, I had one of these done and the engineer didn't check a hall heater (not difficult to get to at all) because the tenants told him that they didn't use it!

Yeah, I think the one we had before last was just super thorough and gave us a copy. I *think* the engineer has to take the readings though and keep them with HIS copy of the certificate? Wouldn't bet my ilfe savings on it though...

Just looked through a certificate - Make, model, type, flue type, operating pressure, safety device correct operation, combustion analyser reading, (This is what was on the little emissions print out time before last, among other things) so yes, these things ARE recorded.

It will be 100% obvious if he did or didn't say he inspected the boiler. Along with the "Number of appliances tested" box, they will all be listed.
