What's the point of this website if it doesn't tell me the cheapest petrol in my area? It claims that the cheapest near me is 133.9 but the Asda near by is 132.7 & it's not even on? I put the search up to 10 & 15 miles & the other Asda automats come on apart from my local one?! I've complained & they've said they can't get the prices for this station just the diesel ones?! So it kind of defeats the object of this website if it can't tell me where my cheapest petrol is? Anyone else have similar problems?

The data for petrolprices.com don't come directly from the petrol stations, but from a database of transactions held by Experian Catalist. The data come from fuel card transactions. Coverage seems to be pretty good in general, but if a petrol station changes its prices I guess the site won't be updated at least until someone buys fuel there with a fuel card. Stations that don't take fuel cards probably won't be mentioned at all.
I think petrolprices.com is a pretty good resource in general, but it's never going to have up-to-date information about every petrol station in the UK, and depending on usage patterns some regions are likely to be less covered than others.0 -
I get email updates from petrolprices.com & the prices are hardly ever up-to-date, usually they are a couple of days out.
On occasion I have travelled to a petrol station having understood from petrolprices.com that they were the cheapest only to find when I got to the petrol station the price was higher than they said
It's not the most accurate of sites I have to admit & I'd have thought by now there would be a way of providing up to the minute petrol prices?

How much did you have to pay to find that information out??? Nothing i'm guessing as the site is free. Its for reference so it will not always be 100% accurate or upto date.
Your complaining about something that is being offered up for free, if it offends you that much just don't use it.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

The worst case, given the normal 1p/litre changes, is that you'll lose out by 50p or so. Assuming you fill up weekly that's just over 7p a day. I know this is a money saving website, but are you really going to lose sleep over 7p?
More than likely though, all the filling stations in your area will have put their prices up, so unless you fill up in a window between those changes, it's likely that it'll still be the cheapest filling station in your area.0 -
Why would I be offended for? My point was the site claims to help find you the cheapest petrol yet in my case it hasn't & this has happened a few times. Therefore it's my point of view that this site is not fit for purpose, yes indeed you're right it is free but I just wondered if anyone else had the same problems.0

What do you expect? It's run/owned by Fubra who also own nutter central aka housepricecrash.co.uk (if you think the debate house prices forum here is bad, it's nothing compared to that place)."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0

I wonder where the satnavs that claim to guide you to cheapest petrol get their database0

Is this a play on FUBAR? :rotfl:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

That depends on what its purpose is. It certainly isn't to give a near real time price0 -

They probably made a typo when registering the company name
or that one was already taken. "One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0
