Tesco - this really ticked me off!!!

Just got back from Mr. T's and I'm fuming. Do they really think their customers are totally stupid?

Mushrooms - 250gr SEL 70p
Mushrooms - 250gr SEL 83p

I looked in vain for the difference between the two. Best Before date the same, barcode the same.

At the checkout scanned at 83p. CS happily refunded DTD but removed the 70p SEL, and said they must have gone up.

This means a price hike of 13p on the same produce, picked and packed and labelled (and probably delivered and invoiced) at the same time, and the 13p increase was not the result of a 'special' finishing.

So while they're trumpeting their special offers, they are quietly putting those pennies (plus some) on the other items.

G** I hate Tesco.

And why can I never find those marvellous bargains in my Tesco - all the 'finds' on the Grabbit forum never work in my local. Sunflower oil; dishwasher tabs; Dove; Radox - all scanned at full price ........... grrrr!

Yup. Maybe Tesco are trying to claw back their DTD, Turner Road, etc losses. The latest Grocer 33 shows the slipping to third place behind Morrisons

Or maybe they're just gearing themselves up for the forthcoming mega points bonanza promotion, or whatever they're going to call it.

Just went into Tesco's to buy some nappies and milk. Noticed the milk has gone up from £1.25 to £1.49 for four pints now. Needless to say I went across the road to Aldi and bought 4 pints of milk for a £1.00. Tesco's are ok for some things but they seem to fluctuate the prices regularly on essentials depending on which way the wind is blowing I think.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Their price rises are getting ridiculous, it isn't a couple of pence but 40p+ in some cases.

The increase in food costs is supposed to be 4.9% according to the government, yeh, right and pigs fly too!

think thats bad. have you seen the price of their value pasta in the last few weeks since the end of DTD (when it was 9p) it has gone from 9p to 18p and when i went in yesterday it is now up to 32p!!! so its almost 4 times the price that it was in april.

I do agree about rising prices in general, but it seems to be the same everywhere.
    The value/basic/smart price pasta was 9p in Tesco's Asda & Sainsbury's. Now up to 18p in Asda & Tesco's &17p in Sainsbury's.

Value pasta still showing at 18p in Tesco's for me....http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=251477765 although the Trattoria Verdi may be 42p.

Still shows as 18p online - but just out of interest what do you consider an acceptable price ? Do you genuinely think that 18p is an ethically acceptable price that allows all in the supply chain to maintain a business and job security. Amazes me sometimes how we're happy to challenge low wages/foreign workers etc and yet not pay a fair price for a product.

    Rant over

It may be that 70p was the price of the previous batch, but the batch you were looking at had gone up to 83p and someone had not bothered to remove the 70p sel.

Fruit and veg prices vary almost daily, due to supply/demand and quality. It's possible the previous batch of mushrooms were a bit cheaper because the quality was not as good. Then they got a new batch that was better quality and therefore a higher price.

You are forgetting to mention that before it was 9p it was 18p.

Not long ago morrisons pasta shapes went from £1.08 to 2.16. But they were on special offer at half price 54p then two weeks later on offer at half price for £1.08.

Whether or not they have ever been sold for £2.16, it's still double the price in 2 weeks

    What are these companies thinking?
its like they are trying to stop making a loss on this product, which even at 18p or 32p is still amazingly cheap for what you get.

I mean 11p noodles, 18p for 500g pasta, 40p per kg of rice, 25p for a jar of sweet and sour, 9p for a jar of curry sauce, what do you people want? should the shops just pay you to clear their shelves?

I think people in this country should stop complaining about food prices, we have had it way too good for way too long, and its only going to get worse, get used to it, this time next year you will be complaining at how pasta used to be 32p a bad instead of £1.20 ;)
