Fruit and veg prices vary almost daily, due to supply/demand and quality. It's possible the previous batch of mushrooms were a bit cheaper because the quality was not as good. Then they got a new batch that was better quality and therefore a higher price.

Not in this case - different batches would have different dates and in all probability different barcodes. It was simply two shelves of the same product and somebody forgot to change one of the SELs.

Sorry, I didn't explain very clear. What I meant was, they have a batch at 70p, then they sell them all and put out a new batch, at 83p. But don't change one of the sels. You wouldn't see any of the previous batch, because they were all sold and replaced with the new batch.

I bought the Radox handwash on Tuesday (2 days ago) and they were £1 and bogof. I nipped intoTesco tonight and see that they've put them up to £1.90 bogof!!
    90% increase in 2 days!!

Exactly..they were on special offer at £1 & bogof.
Actually, before they were on offer they were £1.63 each so not really a 90% increase overall. An increase yes, but not really fair to compare the % increase with a recent promotion to me.

Just to say though, I did buy some when they were £1 & bogof...seemed a really good deal to me. However, I can't see how a RRP of £1.63, or should I say now £1.90 is justified, I think you are just paying for the brand. I usually buy Tesco's own at 55p & am more than happy with it.:)

    Oh, & Tesco's own is 500ml I believe, & the radox ones 300ml.

They are only £1 each in asda, not a special offer, just the normal price.

So, £1.90 for 2 that's only 5p per bottle cheaper. But if you want them cheaper, get 4 at asda and you'll only pay £3, making them 75p each.

Lol, yes, a very useful item in the old DTD days.:D
No Asda near me though, but for anyone that shops there it's better perhaps to buy them there..
In general though I'm quite happy with Tesco's own...& I'm sure the other supermarkets have their own too which is just as good & therefore better value.

I see, I didn't know that T had them on "offer" regularly. I usually shop in Sainsbury's/Morrison's but was tempted back by DTD and then the meal deal. I still only go in to spend a voucher (and have lots of dettol handwash from dtd, I was just looking for longlife, storable items to use up my vouchers when I bought some on Tuesday.)

    It's only a game

I think the point is, that Tesco has been tripling the price of most of their extra value products over the last 4-5 weeks. I don't think 28p for a bag of pasta is expensive. But it is 3 times as much as at the beginning of May. Butter has also gone up, so have value bagels, turkey thigh meat, value minced beef and value tomatoes. It is actually now cheaper to buy the Tesco own brand butter and tinned tomatoes rather than the extra value. And I haven't been able to pick up extra value carrots for ages, they are sold out every time I visit the store.
As you might have noticed, extra value is what I buy 90% of the time. I am on an extremely tight budget, and I do notice these price changes. With petrol prices as they are, I can't keep doing a 20 mile round trip in London traffic to get the best deal everywhere. It would cost me more than I save.
I have noticed as well, that Tesco's shelves are generally very empty and the last 6 visits I was unable to get all the items on my list (I can't afford to buy branded, if extra value or own brand is out of stock, I can't buy). This used to happen occasionally, but now 6 visits in a row and not just one or 2 items....

I have also noticed how their special offers don't seem to add up to give us the best deals.
Their 4pt milk just a month or so back was 2 for £2.00 or 1 for £1.25 then it went up to 3 for £3.00 still 1 for £1.25 now though its £1.49 or thereabouts i think its ridiculous i mean you can pop into most corner shops or at least we can in oxford or even iceland and pick one up for £1...
Pringles for instance im a huge fan of binge eating pringles :o just a few months back they were 99p a tub which seems to be everywhere still at the moment then the following week i thought perfect can get some more while im doing a shop and they were £1.99 each WHAT!!! And then (sorry to go on but i do love my pringles) the next week they were £1.99 bogof now i don't really see the point in that when i could have gotten 2 for £1.98 two weeks before.
Food in my opinion has risen so much in the past month or so alone, But i have now become a couponer so im saving money at least on laundry/cleaning and toiletries which are the things that in my opinion add up to me.

As for the comment about the pasta?! I don't think the person who posted the message about the prices was trying to say they expected it to be 9p forever their point was that tesco's have upped the price considerably in such a short time as with alot of their own branded products, yes it's still cheaper than other branded products but when they up prices to only have a 20-30p difference between their price and a top brand price i would rather actually buy the better brand ok i won't be saving money but i would feel better snubbing tescos price increase...

Sorry for the rant just i can see where the original poster was coming from

Once you're on this site for a while, you will realise that if Mr T puts something up in price like that, there is some sort of "offer" coming along, meaning it is worth waiting a while before you buy if you can't be bothered to go elsewhere.

The point is they sell more.

The people who buy them regularly will know if they they buy two it will just be the same price as they paid last time. But those who buy them, but not regularly will think it's a bargain and grab some, may even "stock up on them while they are cheap". Some people who have never tried them may grab them while they are "on offer" just to try them, and possibly continue to buy them in the future.
