  • Best ones for adverse credit (or no credit) are Barclaycard Initial, Capital One Classic, Vanquis or Aqua.

All have hideous APR so don't even apply for one if you don't intend to pay off in full.

First question would be have you made several applications over a short period of time? if so you might be better waiting a couple of months as that would temporarily reduce your credit rating.

If these are no good, then you could always try to apply for a / couple of store cards, manage the account well (pay off in full) in order to build a credit rating, then after 12 months try again for a CC and dump the store cards.

    no luck there tho
  • Do you have a bank account?

If so, it is always easiest to get you first credit card from your own bank.

Are you on the Voters Roll?? If not, registering on this might help you as it's one of the things that companies that offer credit use to "track" you. Also, do you have a bank account?

These are little things you can do to start to build a profile with out having to actually take out something that will charge you interest! The only other one to try is to get a mobile phone on contract rather than PAYG (if you haven't already). Make sure you put the payments on direct debit so you don't forget about it! Once you've had this for a while it shows the CC company that someone has offered you credit and you can pay the bills on time!

Companies are often concerned at first, as you mentioned, you don't have a bad credit history, you have no credit history, you just need to start building a picture!

I had the same problem years ago and had to buy a stereo on credit to establish my credit rating.Getting a mobile phone contract sounds like the modern equivilant as they are dying to sell the contracts to anyone.
Just make sure that you are not suckered into having a contract that you don't want or can't afford also one that allows you to leave when you want to say, after 6-12months.
Along with the other advice already mentioned that should get you started.
    Good luck.

Good idea. I did this after I got turned down for the first card that I applied for. No problems at all. It's usually easier to get one from your own bank to start off with. Good luck.
  • my son opened a bank account at hsbc when he was 16 solo account when he was 18 and still a student he got a letter to go in and see them he was bricking it, they just wanted to talk to him about up-grading his solo to switch and gave him a mastercard with 500 on not bad he still has both and as I acted as a gaurentor, well you know what I mean I've spelt it wrong, there has been no problems but an ex friend of mine applied for a barclays card and they said he could have one as long as he put 250 on it so he did, a year later they up't his credit to 1000 so that worked well for him.
