If anyone's doing this to acquire Air Miles it works out as 13p per mile plus free beer, or 16p per mile plus free wine.
If you buy Airmiles from, er, Airmiles to "top up" your balance then it's 15p per mile with the best offering at the moment (500 miles for £75 - 30% bonus).
I try to acquire my miles for less than 10p per mile as I tend to do longhaul rather than short-haul but anything less than 16p per mile saves me on a flight. But especially if you are doing European flights then Air Miles is a great deal...

I think you can only do it if others share your household.
If someone you live with has a Clubcard account, then top them up with the 10,000 too. Then get them a free Air Miles account. Sometime in the future you can merge the accounts if you both live in the same household. It's not possible if you live in different households apparently.

I seem to find it really difficult to grasp Airmiles and points. I think it would be 2000 miles each way for Italy? Could anyone possibly tell me how I work out the cost in clubcard points. It has been so long since I have been on a holiday I wouldn't even know what worked out good value. Thanks very much.0

Italy is Zone 2 for Air Miles, which equals 1500 miles.
Exchanging £2.50 in Clubcard Vouchers gives 50 Air Miles.
So you'd need 30 x £2.50 vouchers = £75 in Clubcard Vouchers for a flight to Italy (typically on BA).
Alternatively, that's 50 bottles of Yali white wine @ £4.99 each (actually slightly fewer, as you get slightly more than £1.50 in Clubcard vouchers per bottle).
You can also be referred to switch one of your existing current accounts to a Lloyds TSB account and get 750 miles, which would get you half way to your target. For more on this send me a PM :TElite 5:2 #54 12/13 lbs (18 Jan) 1st Target :j0 -

Thanks very much for that. I think I'd need an extra 500 miles as I'm not from London, but it still sounds good.
This is probably silly question, but I take it flights aren't return, so, say, to go to Italy and back it would be 4000 miles, or just 2000?:o0
