Can you do the same now with using only a CD?
Yes, read post #2

I never used a CD - I ran it off the hard drive and was resizing the partition that the program was installed on - never had any problems- and have done it one three different pcs0

I have given up trying it on my laptop. Am now going to concentrate on my desktop pc. On my pc i have the following partitions.
C drive 10G primary
F drive 120G extended partition
G drive extended partition
Need to increase the size of C drive.
I loaded the software onto G drive. In safe mode i moved the partition of F drive from the left so that it is now 90G. There is now a new partition between C drive and F drive. I have formatted the new partition and made it a primary.
When i try to resize the C drive so it swallows up the new partition i get a statement that the operation can not be done because C drive is in use. When i initially loaded the software on G drive it put some data onto C drive. What can i do now?
I know that partion manager normally come as a floppy and you boot up the pc with it in place. The above program is on a CD which prompts you to install it onto your pc. Am i doing it right or is there another way of doing it?
Is there an idiots guide to using partition manager?
Thanks in advanceProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

I would use http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ - Its free and feature rich.
Download the LiveCD, its similar to patition manager. Their website has documentation if you need it.0 -
I have just resized my system partition which I did not think was possible.
You definitely cannot merge Primary and Extended partitons (or resize one into another) so I used the Redistribute Space wizard to grab 30G from the next partition along.
That told me it couldn't be done now as the partiton was in use but it offered me the choice to reboot and do it then. Worked like a charm0 -

Quick question
those who have partitioned their hard drive, including C drive, can you check your restore points history.
On my laptop all my restore points has been deleted.
On my desktop pc the restore points are untouched.
On my laptop it has xp media centre software. Used to log on straight away. After partitioning i now have the option of two operating software, xp media centre and xp 2003.
On the desktop i reduced the size of drive F and increased the size of drive C
On the laptop i decreased the size of drive C and created drive F which is empty.
Both computers are working perfectly. No mishaps.
thanks again for the adviceProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way
