In the feb issue of computer shopper there is a free disc with software Partition Manager 8.0.
As far as i know to create a partiton on a PC you boot it up with the floppy disc already inserted in the floppy drive.
Can you do the same now with using only a CD?
On my PC i can create a partition if i insert a floppy before turning it on. Can't do this on my laptop because it does not have a floppy drive. Yes i know you can buy an external floppy drive. Just wondering if with partition manager 8.0 it allows you to create a partition using only the CD?

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

You need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that it looks at the CD drive first before the hard drive. On your PC it checks the floppy first before looking at the hard drive. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Beware, if your pc loses power halfway throug the operation you could end up with literally nothing usefull left on your hard disk. but it has worked very well for me in the past without any problems.I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0 -
I use paragon partition manager - very easy to use.
Do a defrag first to stick all your files up one end of the hard drive.
Then it was simply a case of resizing the current hard drive by dragging the mouse to how big I wanted it to be. e.g. you could make a 100 gig hardrive 80 gigs.
Then right click, and format your newly free space (say the 20 gigs that are left) to whatever you want, FAT32, NTFS etc.
Then give it a name if you want.
Its extremely easy, but like the other poster said- dont turn the pc off while its in the middle of doing it!!!0 -

Just copy partition manager from the cd to your pc and run the program, no floppy disk needed.I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0

Do you use the Partition Manager 8.0 in safe mode?
I have just logged on as usual and installed the software from the magazine. I ran it and selected create partition. I have the following 'error' or 'warning' statement and can't go forward
''A new partition cannot be created on this hard disk. Most probably, all primary slots are occupied and there is no extended partition''
The laptop is compaq v6133 with 80Gb hard drive. It is supplied already partitioned. Drive C is 64.2G NTFS and drive D is 9.21G FATS32. Drive D is for recovery purpose.
drive C has 50G free.
any idea what to do next?Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Your hard drive is already partitioned, so where are you trying to create a new partition? Have you resized an existing partition to make room for the new one? RTFM:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Just realised that i should have chosen move/resize partition. My plan was to reduce the size of drive C and create a new partition where i can store other programs/photos etc.
So when i tried to move/resize dive C in normal mode and in safe mode i get the statement ''Operation 'Move partition' cannot be completed because volume C is being used now''
The help document is not that helpful. Any advice?Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

You are trying to change the partition that the program is installed on! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
