Here is the link on amazon:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/203-6156505-6678361?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Norton+Internet+Security+2007

jennyjelly, the £42.35 version the online alert thing suggests you buy is for Norton Internet Security 2007, not the upgrade version (I think). The upgrade version is even more. So even if you do an automatic upgrade it doesn't sell you the upgrade version!? So it must be fine to buy the non-upgrade version independently.

So who is the upgrade version for!? I'm so confused!

    So am I!!!

I think those of us who don't know much about computers other than how to use them are at real risk of getting conned. I liken my computer to my car - I'm very good at driving it but I don't really want to know how to change a gearbox!

I think I'm just going to follow my instincts and buy the basic (not upgrade) version online at the cheapest price I can find and have a go at installing it. If it tells me I need to uninstall the old one first I'll worry about that when I get there. As I see it, when you buy the basic one you get a years worth of updates, so that should work. Cross your fingers for me, and I'll let you know how I get on.

I've been searching the forums and there is a lot of good advice about this, so I recommend you have a root around too.

tend not to use or recommend Norton/Symantec as their product is now too big and slows pc's down too much - look as Kaspersky - much quicker!!
  • i had norton for many years without any real problem but this year ive bought panda security from ebay (not a copy) and am happy with it only cost £9 and they have upgraded it to 2007 version free of charge http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Panda-Platinum-Internet-Security-2006-Retail-1yr-Update_W0QQitemZ290059660600QQihZ019QQcategoryZ3805QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Thanks for that suggestion jamstaruk.

I've never heard of this one but looking at the link it certainly looks as if it does everything Norton does, very impressive. Do you think it is as good as Norton, and would you really recommend it? Anyone else out there know anything about it, good or bad?

I know I sound really hesitant and scared to change, but I'm terrified of letting in the same kind of evil stuff we had before!

And another one I've never heard of!

Again this one looks as if it's on a par with Norton, and now I've gone from mildly confused to totally lost

I think that when choosing between different products it's not about the money so much so much as the effectiveness per £, as it were. Once I can decide which product to buy I will start shopping around.

So recommendations please from anyone who knows anything about Panda and Kaspersky. I know I can rely on some good sensible advice from fellow moneysavers!:T

  • kaspersky is good as is nod32 - they both use far less system resources than norton and you're computer will run smoother/quicker
  • is there a link for kasperky please

The normal version is on special offer at £50% off. The upgrade is only discounted by 2%. The upgrade is usually cheaper.

However, the new version is often sold with deals (e.g. at PC World get 50% off with a new PC etc).

Buy the new version and uninstall the old version on your machine. ;)

Not necessary to buy a PC to get the 50% off.

I've recently obtained AVG and Zonealarm based on the recent mail from Martin. I already have and use adaware se personal, adware away and spybot search and destroy. I have deleted norton from my system as it has run out and I have also kept windows forewall turned off.

Am I correct in doing this or not. Please advise.

    Many thanks!
