Because there are no signs saying, "Park Here."

I cannot explain the charge. Most people on this thread have agreed that the charge is grossly excessive and the reported behaviour of the operative was thuggish in the extreme, but it still doesn't detract from the point that you should have realised, as there were no signs saying, "Park Here," you have to accept some of the responsibility.

If the land is council owned (which is the first time this has been mentioned), what was their response, when you reported the behaviour of the clamping firm?

Are you telling me that everywhere you have ever parked has a sign saying "Park Here". I do accept that I shouldn't have parked there but there should be clear visible signs as also stated by the British Parking Association. As for the people who live there and have also been clamped, I did not get into a detail discussion with them as to why they did not appeal. Each to his own! As confirmed by the sports centre and the council they don't want to get involve. The centre said that they have requested signs but the council refuse. What is this telling you now?

It says - Call the local paper. Get them embarassed.

I'm confused - is the land on which you parked owned by the Council?

But this wasn't a "scam." Being charged that amount of money is a rip off and the behaviour of the thugs who you encountered was unacceptable, I grant you, but you didn't have to park somewhere, where it was quite clearly not a car park.

You still haven't asked my question about these other supposed people who parked there and didn't appeal.

Of course it was a scam. The OP was still in, or at least with, the vehicle. The clamper could have told her not to park there if he wanted to keep the car park clear.

If you got the details of the Police that were on the site, and photos of your car being blocked in, then make a complaint to the Police, and the IPCC, this will make them sit up and do the work.

Blocking someone in so that they cannot escape is illegal.

Lucky th Op got the chance to pay by card.

In our case we had no choice but to pay by cash, be given a receipt that a five year old would have in his play set.

If we delayed for 2 hours the car would be taken away and guess what then.

When others were being warned not to park there later, by members of the public, they were intimidated and pushed.

The appeals address was a PO Box and the contact number was a mobile , guess where that was for 10 points.

The answer is easy. Sue the landowner instead of the PPC. All you do by parking without permission on private land is to commit the act of trespass. The only punishment for this is a fine based on the value of the damage caused by your use of the land. Cause no damage and you will be fined £0.00.

Btw, Essex Police successfully sued LBS for blackmail and extortion. So it is worth pressuring the Police into acting.

A receipt is a receipt, why waste money on them?

All it had on it was the amount and a pretty red border;)
