How do you know that nothing has happened? Unless the person says "I have been caught and my benefit has been stopped" you are unlikely to ever know. This does not often happen!! If they are prosecuted and taken to court unless the case is mega large or something that the press thinks will interest the public, like cleaning at the DWP Office or working as a stripper etc, it will rarely be reported.

The object of the exercise is that the person continues to work and the benefit stops!

Even if you put your name on the letter you are unlikely to get any contact unless it is to check something with you and even then the DWP will not specifically mention the anonymous report. If contact is made with you, it will be up to you to mention it, as at times letters contain names and addresses of people who have nothing to do with the allegation!

I am someone who was 'done' for benefit fraud. Basically i was claiming income support and helped my sister out with one days work which paid one hundred pounds. I fully intended to let DWP know i had earned this money so got paid through the books supplying my nino etc. However i wasn't getting the money immediately so thought i would let them know when i recieved it as didn't want to lose benefit before i had been paid. I then completely forgot about it until ayear later when i was no longer on benefits i recieved a letter to say i was being investigated. It was the worst time of my life i was pregnant under stress anyway and they would only say they would be in touch. six months later i was interviewed under caution throughout which i was sobbing and told i would hear from them in due course after another three months of sleepless nights convinced i was going to prison i was told i was being given a caution and had to pay £23 in overpayment!! I know i was in the wrong but it made me mad to think of the people who do it for years getting away with it and although i have been there myself it makes me want to report it when i know its going on.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Unless you know their full circumstances, how can you even know that they are commiting fraud?
  • I need some advice here. Someone I know is committing fraud whilst claiming benefit. I reported them via the Targeting Fraud website about 4 months ago and again about 2 weeks ago and nothing has been done. It's still going on. How long does it take before something is done?

All friendly replies will be thanked :j

    nevermind..

Further to my earlier friendly (!) reply. Something may be happening at this moment that neither you nor the person concerned is aware of! If surveliance is going to be carried out, it takes time to set up and carry out successfully.

Rest assured if it has been reported something will be done.

i know someone who had 3 kids and was pregnant with a 4th. one morning the police raided her house, they found all the evidence they needed to charge her, had had her under sulivance. she went to court, they gave her a suspended sentence, she has to pay back all the money outta her income support,,,,joke!....... she nearly got made homeless as the housing benefit stopped paying her rent..... hey guess what she back fidling again..............

makes me mad as me and my partner both work and its hard to pay the bills some people take constant micheal.........
i will be debt free, i will
  • maybe nothings being done because they werent actually commiting fraud? i know a lot of people take the mick, but maybe they arent? i got someone sent round to my house because someone had reported me for benifit fraud, when id done absolutley nothing wrong! but to them it must have looked like i had.

Yes, someone accused me of commiting benefit fraud years ago as we had a lodger. Quite true...we had a lodger.

But we were not on any benefits.

Another person threatened to report my husband to the Inland Revenue as he was running a business.

We said go ahead as we'd been paying legitimate tax on the business for eight years.

It's not always as it seems (not saying the OP is mistaken though, and if the person is committing fraud then they should be reported).

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • :money:I think it all depends what these people are doing the DWP will probably be watching them they can watch someone 24/7 to make sure they have enough evidence, have a look out your window on a morning and see who's parked up the street, you'd be surprised, where the DWP turn up. But I would.nt worry about this , you'll give the game away, to your neigbours if you do, and they would'nt get in touch with you about it, if it were anonymous, I would just keep watch and see what happens as you just never know,:T
